To preface, I am a perm resident, and have been for years. We moved to the UK last year and am only now applying for my Canadian citizenship.
My question is this, in the online form, it asks:
"During your 5-year eligibility period, did you leave Canada for any reason? For example, vacation, work, business, family matters, school or illness."
I've listed my absences, but when I go to enter the time We've lived away, it asks for a return date and as we live here now we don't have one.
I dont see a way to progress with the application unless I state a return date,

Thanks
Colin

You need to be physically present in Canada to apply for citizenship. Once you apply, you can leave, but will have to come back for Oath and and possibly citizenship test/interview (if they don't grant you permission to take it outside of Canada)

Thats not the case, it's perfectly fine to apply for citizenship outside of Canada as long as the physical presence numbers are solid and a valid PR card is available.

So if you enter something in the date of return, when you are not in Canada, technically that would be misrepresentation. If you find a way to fill out your form without a return date and receive an AOR, keep us posted!

You'll be the first example of an applicant successfully applying from abroad in this forum that I have seen and will help everyone

Unless you are trying to drive traffic to this random blog, rest assured that it is not possible to apply for citizenship while being outside Canada without misrepresentation.
I haven't checked this blog, but if you have read it and if it says so, then it is factually misleading information.
