Hi Everyone,

I got my PR as single status. however, i was married to a person with Canadian PR status at that time. I did my Landing without informing IRCC about my marriage and they processed it as single status. I have got my PR card and my partner also have PR card.

What are the consequences?
Definitely misrepresentation.

Consequences? Hard to say, but if someone alerts IRCC to the fact (or they find out otherwise), you could certainly lose your PR status.

Thank you for replying!!

I am just trying to understand how can i make this right ?
Probably only by renouncing your PR and having your spouse sponsor you, but that could open up a Pandora's Box.

Why did you even do this?!

Uhhh... get a lawyer. You sir, can end up in trouble for misrep.

Marital status is captured in too many places. Taxes, employment, rentals, provincial health care and god knows where else. Biggest trouble? Someone close to you and your wife might tip on you because they were jealous or something.

I don't need to sponsor my spouse, my spouses status is already PR. We both are in canada
But you said this:
"i was married to a person with Canadian PR status at that time."

You needed to inform IRCC that you were married BEFORE landing as a PR. Would it have been a big deal [then]...who knows. Because you LIED (gotta be honest, because you did) you now have a very big problem.

If you voluntarily renounce your PR, your PR spouse could try to sponsor you as their spouse, but since IRCC has your previous information already...it's going to be a bumpy ride.

I suggest you talk to a qualified lawyer to find out how bad this really is for you.

You are already a PR. there is no such thing as PR as single status. Don't think you need to do anything at this point.

He got his PR as single when he should have informed Ircc about getting married. Even when one gets a copr, there is a section that says about which circumstances one should inform IRCC.

TBH, I don’t think that will be a problem until one applies to the citizenship. At that time, they can strip PR as it was received under misrepresentation. Will they do it is a different question but they can.

So, I see from your previous posts (in 2019 and in 2020) that you said that you DID tell IRCC (via a CSE in Sept. 2019) that you were married, but you still landed as being single? Please elaborate to tell us what, if anything, IRCC said about this.

Sure if they find out but I don't think they are actively looking for this guys misrepresentation unless he makes the stupid mistake of trying to 'correct' it and tipping them off.

You can marry in Canada to show them you are couple now.

file taxes and other documents as couple

for citizenship once you both completed your required stay apply together in one application

Married where ? If you were married in India its not same like marrying in Canada. You lied in your application that you are single so you misrepresented which is the ground for losing the PR or even Citizenship. If you get married here in Canada and fill taxes together you will be OK.

There are no questions in the citizenship app which asks about when your wife got pr or to upload your marriage certificate.
When one applies for citizenship, they have to provide access to tax documents. When one files taxes, they ask when you got married. The OP can continue down the rabbit hole and keep telling that he got married after coming to Canada (since no one asks for docs). In that case, they will most likely not find out,.

Thats what i am worried, what will they do when we apply for citizenship ?
Idk. This is way outside of my knowledge. They can let it slide (most likely will) or they can go after you, strip you of your PR and deport you (less likely).
