Canadian Passport in person timeline

Hi Everyone. Is it a must that guarantors will be called before passport approval? Has anyone gotten their passport without their guarantor not called? I worry about my guarantor reachability because he is travelling.

Applied today at the Orleans office in Ottawa.
Got there about 15mns prior to opening and there was already about 20 people in line. However it went fairly quick and I was out by 9.20.
Meeting with the officer itself took about 15mns.
He said they will ship it to me on Nov. 21 and I should get it less than a week later.
Regular processing with no anticipated travel.

They do not call guarantors in all cases, but can't tell you whether they will in your case. For obvious reasons, better if your guarantor is reachable by phone.

I applied for passport today at downtown Toronto service Canada passport office. I got there at 8.10 am and finished submitting application at 9.37 am. The officer said that the passport will be ready to pick up on November 21st. Thanks forum members for your help.

No. Proof of travel needs for urgent passport processing. I did not apply for urgent passport.

Good evening,
I applied in person passeport at the meadowlands passeport office on the 18th of Octobre. At the time i had no travel date and they said it would be mailed out by the 16th of November. I now got my travel date in early december and i was wondering if i should call them to inform them of that knowing that Ottawa's office are very slow ? My guarantor even told me that he haven't got a call from them yet, does that mean that my application havent been processed yet ?

Have you called them? I applied at the Service Canada on Meadowlands the 26th of September. Requested status update online last week and still no response. Was able to reach someone by phone today, and they just said my application is still in progress and pending approval. Ottawa does seem to be very slow, especially considering that many people who applied at other Service Canadas in the past month have been receiving their passports in 4-6 weeks.

No. Proof of travel needs for urgent passport processing. I did not apply for urgent passport.

The reason I'm asking is that some offices were not taking walk-ins AT ALL for non-urgent a few monhts ago, they were being told to either do it by mail or at Service Canada (and service canada just mails it to the central office). And by mail cases were taking ages - some were four months or more.

So it's GREAT news that you were taken as a walk-in and given a pickup time only three-four weeks away. Yours was the first I recall seeing for downtown TO where such (normal) service.

(Warning to others, it still seems to vary somewhat by office, although most are way better than they were a few months ago).

It is not a must, they usually dont call. They didnt call my guarantor or references. Some people still report they call, and most of the times when people apply for an urgent passport, not a regular one...

My experience today; 4 Nov 2022
Passport Office; 74 Victoria Str , downtown Toronto
1- Time of waiting; 2 hours
2- Asked for express service; 210$ ( 160$+ 50$ ).
3- Emergency reason; going to fix my teeth, proof my agreement with a clinic in Turkey, no ticket payment
4- The clerk checked my application, took my 2 photos & copied my original OHIP card
5- Gave me back the genuine citizenship certificate
6- Gave me the receipt of the express payment & day 9 NOV 2022 to go and pick up in- person my passport.
Question : If the passport office decided for me day 9November, means that guarantor is not going to be called. Guarantor or references are only to fill the pages of the application????

The passport situation is definitely improving. According to this article, "More passports are being issued within 40 days, according to the statement. For the week of Oct. 10 to Oct. 16, 2022, 72 per cent of passports were issued within 40 days in comparison to 66 per cent two weeks ago."

I just passed 40 days today and mine is still in progress with no ETA. But hoping it will take less than the 17 weeks I had been told when I had applied.

Today in the morning, I went there too. what time did you go to the passport office? I read some of the post that for urgent passport application, they called guarantor and references .
