More people is good for existing homeowners, business owners and the elite. For those that aren't... well tough luck... you'll be competing with the immigrants fore the 600 sq ft 1 bedroom
Well, majority of canadians are homeowners. So....
Those who are arriving here later (I am one of them) have to work a solution out of this for asset prices. Either wait for a strong recession or move to towns with lower prices ... those exists.

On immigration, majority of Canadians are supportive of these levels.

Here is a survey from 2022 : https://www.environicsinstitute.org/docs/default-source/project-documents/focus-canada---fall-2022---immigration-refugees/focus-canada-fall-2022---canadian-public-opinion-about-immigration-refugees---final-report.pdf?sfvrsn=b31e22c9_2

69% disagree that level is too high.

Environics is a Toronto based research firm established in 1970 collecting this survey since 1976. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environics
I know a Senior VP from that company, good organization

There are lies, damn lies and statistics. The survey doesn’t say anything about demographics, province of responders.

Majority of redditors are young people so it makes sense that they're the most displeased as they are the worst to suffer from immigration lol The rest, old homeowners. are set for a bountiful retirement

If you want 100M by 2100, you need this kind of number. More so if you are seeing accelarated deaths and suppressed birth rates.

Canada has that goal.
Without scaling up the existing infrastructure (both human and physical ones like affordable housing), this goal is unsustainable in the long run. Should have prepared the policies before inviting this number of immigrants. Instead of trying to fix a bug in production.

I am quoting it from the report :

Quote begins:
Agree-Disagree: “Overall, there is too much immigration to Canada.”

Across the country, acceptance of current immigration levels is voiced by at least seven in ten Canadians, except in Ontario (66% disagree, up 1 point) and Alberta (60%, down 2). The most significant change has been in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, where disagreement with the statement has jumped to 76 percent (up 23 points), more than reversing a previous downward trend. In Quebec – where immigration featured prominently in the just concluded provincial election – opinions about immigration levels mirror the national average (70% disagree, versus 25% agree, unchanged from 2021.

If we agree the most of the missing infra is people, then you need to bring more people and enable them to take up the jobs that have critical gaps.

Well, Young Canadian will have to either inherit consequences of increased immigration or have to inherit a massive debt and high taxes. The old are not going to get younger no matter what we do.

It’s an unrealistic number for the current Canada.
To reach that number they need to build housing accordingly which people will not like since it will cut down farm land and nature trails. Ontario is full of tiny ass villages between Windsor-London-Toronto-Ottawa that are in the road and have basically just a gas station and a restaurant. In Texas for example, if you go from Dallas metro to Austin/Houston/San Antonio, there are several cities in between with 50-100k population. The tiny villages are on real rural area away, not in the main road.

Or you will need to allow smaller than 5000-6000 sqft lots. Or allow more laneway houses.

Its happening in Vancouver Island already. Tiny towns are getting huge number of condos. Langford is an example, they call it condo-ford these days.

It’s kinda needed, at least along main roads. It’s shitty driving up to London from Windsor and the only sort of city on the way is Chatham. London to toronto too they have these pretend cities(other than Kitchener metro). Like you said, build at least some condos so you don’t take too much extra land.

This is what I get from looking at PDF through my phone haha. Thank you for the that; I stand corrected. I still wonder about the demographics. Every younger Canadian I met is not against the immigration but concerned about the future for themselves, which I believe, is a valid point. Older Canadians I met are happy with how things are.
