Hi Guys

I need your advice please....

I checked my linkedin today and got a notification that someone claiming to be visa officer viewed my profile twice today. On my LinkedIn I use short version of my name, but I have not used that name as nickname while I filed my citizenship application online.

Like for example, my name is:
First Name: AAABBB
Middlename: rrrr
Last Name: XXX

On linkedin, I use AAA XXX. Also, in professional world, I have started to use AAA XXX as my name as people hate long names.

I know that a nickname can be a person's short name, but short names are not always considered nicknames.

Will it cause any issue or delays? Should I send a web form to update my short name?

Wow I thought IRCC would have linkedin premium and view people's profiles anonymously lol. I don't think it should be an issue. If your profile picture matches the picture you submitted, and your education and work experience match as well, then there's nothing to worry about. I'm sure not everyone uses their full passport name on linkedin. Also if this is part of their application checks, sending a webform might interfere with it.

Thanks for the answer. So they match work history with whats shown on LinkedIn? I thought work history has nothing to do with eligibility.

My work history on LinkedIn doesn't include small contract jobs. Obviously I listed all jobs that I did on application but my LinkedIn just include the main jobs as it is marketing tool and it also include some jobs that I did as Volunteer but didn't listed them on citizenship application as I was not paid for them. Will that cause issue?

Sorry if I freaked you out or anything, I’ve honestly never heard of IRCC checking an applicant’s LinkedIn. Like maybe this isn’t even related to your citizenship application. Anyway if they have any doubts they’ll ask for an interview or to send them proof by email or something, but you obviously have nothing to worry about. Don’t quote me on anything I’m saying haha

I am going to UPDATE THE SPREADSHEET (for Nov 2021 only) with peoples updates moving forward. If anyone has an update that is not reflected in the spreadsheet, please let me know and I will get it updated ASAP. Citizenship Tracker November 2021

Thanks
Please update tracker as per my signature.
Question - How long does it take to receive Oath email . My online tracker was updated two days back but haven't received email yet .
I also have travel scheduled and i am leaning towards rescheduling my tickets instead of rescheduling oath .

Thanks

I guess maybe your are right. It might be someone else and not IRCC. There are lot of fake linkedin accounts. So, if we use short names professionally? Do we reveal them in citizenship application as nicknames? I was thinking that short names doesn't necessarily means nicknames so I didn't added them in 'Have you ever used any other name'.

Hi all, just thought I'd share my timeline here as well.

Application submitted: November 2, 2021
AOR: February 8, 2022
Background check complete: July 21, 2022

Edited to add that the tracker definitely updates more than once a day (someone said here earlier that it only happens once a day around 5am Eastern) - yesterday morning I checked the tracker at around 8am Pacific and there were no updates, but when I checked again at 10:30am Pacific the update for physical/language/prohibitions was there.

Hi mate,

My 2 cents on this--- I think the other names/nick names are only relevant when they are on some official documents like PR card, Health card, Driver's License, SIN no, passport etc.. I am guessing this is for background, police checks, phy presence or prohibitions (like convictions in courts as an eg)... basically to confirm ur eligibility for citizenship.. it shouldn't matter what names u use on social media including linkedin or what name u used in ur jobs (the SIN u used will confirm ur identity here along with taxes filed anyway) .. as long as u provided all information that can help with these checks it should be fine in my opinion..

In any case, like someone mentioned above, if they have any doubts they will come back to you for additional information... from my experience while applying for PR, they do give you a chance to clarify/justify/present your side of things... hope this helps

Congrats. Vancouver is easily the weirdest office. My test got done about 15 days before yours and there's still no update on my app.

Congrats! That's some good news for Vancouver!

Thanks bud! If there's anything I learned from my PR experience it's that IRCC operates without any observable logic or accountability whatsoever.. so I don't even try to figure it out anymore!
