Hi,

I processed visitor visa for my aunt(widowed) from India and her application got rejected with following reasons.

  1. I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as required by paragraph 179(b) of the IRPR
  2. Your assets and financial situation are insufficient to support the stated purpose of travel for yourself
  3. You do not have significant family ties outside Canada

Myself and my wife are PR holders and we showed our funds bank and employment pay statements.
we submitted travel itenary (not ticket), enough proof of funds(bank balance, fixed deposits, property document), family information form (clearly says Son lives in Singapore and her dad lives in India).

Please suggest what all documents I can show if I have to re-submit application again ?

Also, if we re-submit application how long does it take (she has biometrics already)? Her tentative travel date is 1st week of October.

Please help !

To strengthen her application, she needs to:
  • show her own funds to support her visit, not yours. You are not considered immediate or extended family, so your funds are not considered. She needs to include her bank statements. Length of visit should be determined by how much is in her bank accounts.
  • Ties to home country: where does she live (India or Singapore). She needs to show reason to return - property, job, caregiver. Does her father live with her? If show, show this as a tie to return. Her son is not a tie to return because he doesn't live in India.
  • Travel history - any travel to the UK, US, AUS, NZ.
Did you provide a letter of invitation? If so include a letter that states she will stay with you but take care of her own expenses. How long was visit? Keep it to what she can afford. Was she travelling with anyone? If from India, processing can be up to 5 months.

Thank you so much for the response.

Her travel plan was to stay for 3 months. Any idea how much funds she needs to show for 3 months stay? Does booking a return flight ticket help here ?

Booking a return flight doesn’t not help. That is a very long visit. With such a long visit, she can’t show any ties to return. Show $1000-1500 per week plus funds for airfare and travel insurance. Minimum $10k.

Thanks again for the response ! One last question.

She already has the biometrics now. Does that help speeding up the process when we re-apply ?

3 months is a very long stay for an aunt. Do your parents live in Canada? Shr should really be applying for a 2-3 week visit. The fact that she can be away for 3 months shows that she doesn’t have very strong ties to India. For TRVs, the visitors are expected to show that they can afford to pay for their own travel.
