Hello,

We sent our application so I could sponsor my wife and it was received by immigration Canada on March 21st. We applied for outbound sponsorship, and the processing time was increased on May 11 (almost 2 months after we applied) from 12 months to 22 months.

We received a confirmation of application reception on May 31st. Are we affected by this decision to increase processing time? or do we still fall in the 12 months bracket since we applied way before that decision was made to increase processing time?

After waiting over 8 months for her visa (June 2021 to February 2022), it was rejected. This is an extremely difficult time for me and my wife as we feel like we were forcibly separated by immigration Canada. We really hope that we are not affected by this decision to increase processing time!! I am a Canadian citizen, born here, McGill University graduate, and I work at a reputable firm in Montreal. I don't understand how we can't be together :(

They did not 'increase the processing time' i.e. decide to lengthen; they report what files were taking (when reported). They report the timeframes that files are taking (actually time for which 80% of files are approved, it's not average or median).

Since this is a backward-looking measure - starting from files submitted X number of months ago - it cannot prcesiely convey how long files submitted 'now' will take. Since the current reported 22 months was still during covid, there's good reason to believe it will be less than 22 months as IRCC catches up.

At any rate, many files are still processed in considerably less time than the reported (79% are faster).

Hello Armoured and thank you so much for your response.

The current reported 22 months popped up on May 11th, well after the last covid wave. Which makes me skeptical and worried. You seem very well informed, and based on what you know, how long do you think it would take them to approve (if they do!) our application? I understand this may not be accurate, but just an estimate if you were in position.

Thank you so much!

If your case is straight forward it will be wrapped up in less than 12 Months. If Its complicated then you have to look at 23 Months* Processing time.
A complicated case is the one with History of Divorce or Child Custodies etc.

They stopped updating the figures during covid because they had no idea. Then when they updated them - looking well back into the covid period - they looked worse than the comparison, which was before covid.

Less than 22 months.
