*OUTLAND* SPOUSAL SPONSORSHIP

Hi all,

So this is my situation. I am planning to sponsor my wife who is living in Vietnam. We got married in 2021 in Vietnam.

I got my PR card in November 2019 (under the EE skilled worker programme). After a 2+ years gap from my 10-days ‘soft landing’ in 2019, I will came back to Canada by the end of March 2022 and start looking for a job right away.

— — — — —

We learn that it’s possible to prove how I can sponsor my wife, without the need of an employment history in Canada, as long as we have a proper financial plan to support ourselves (such as shared saving accounts/house properties in our home country, or even my wife's income, etc.).

Now our concern is to favor which option:

(1) We should start applying right after I’m in Canada (but still jobless)

(2) We should apply after when I get a full-time employment letter (probably with a 6-12 month contract).

— — — — —

Is one better than another, or do they indeed have the same chance? We genuinely want to have a fresh start in Canada together, as soonest as possible, that's why we are carefully planning now to avoid any future problems.

Hope I could get some insight from you guys.

Thanks for reading this. Have a nice day.

I'd apply earlier and show savings etc. Update ircc later when you get a job
Oh that sounds like the best of both world! We always thought the sponsoring application would be set in stone, once the final submission is uploaded. (phew!)

Just one more question: So would there be any limitation for the number of updates, so that I have to use each time "wisely"? For example, If Ihave multiple jobs employment throughout the year(short term contracted freelance jobs), how best should I update them all?

Thank for the enlightenment!

I'd say only update if it materially changes your ability to support yourself and spouse. If you're freelancing, I'd personally lean to just one /max two updates with explanation that you're freelancing with multiple clients. You're not the first freelancer they've seen.

I believe you'd be updated IRCC through a webform, and there's no real limit to those. Just try and look at things from their perspective. Would you be a good candidate to sponsor your wife and would she be a good candidate to be sponsored. That's how you should compile your application and subsequent webforms

I agree that there's no real limit - but practically, not a good idea to write frequently with empty requests (where's my file?) or meaningless updates. Eventually those multiple webforms WILL slow things down.

Updates of substance, definitely. Getting a job (going from uneployed to employed) - definitely. New of multiple short-term freelance gig - probably not.

That would be a lot of help for our future application. Thank you so much for you guys sharing!
