Hi everyone,

I have some very specific questions regarding the YP. After having read through all the YP threads on here without any luck, I was hoping one of you may be able to fill in some blanks:

I am a German citizen currently on a WHV which expires 12 June. Found a company who wants to employ me starting mid-May, in anticipation of the YP coming through asap. Just waiting for the employment contract to get issued before lodging my YP application.

- as I am already in Canada, would I have to leave the country and re-enter to "activate" the YP once it has been approved?
- if the YP doesn't get approved prior to my WHV expiring, would there be an "implied status" or would I have to stop working and leave the country until the visa approval has come through?
- health insurance: I am eligible for the BC Health Plan. Would this suffice as proof of health insurance? However, I've read somewhere that health insurance needs to cover repatriation which BC Health Plan does not.....so would I have to purchase additional health care for the whole 12 months??
- do I need police clearance for the YP application?

Thanks in advance!

1) Yes - you'll need to re-enter the country to trigger the visa. You can flagpole at a US/Canada land border.
2) There is no implied status with IECs. You'll need to stop working if your current work permit expires before your new one is approved.
3) No - it's not sufficient. As you've read, you need to have insurance that covers repatriation to your home country. Yes - you have to purchase insurance to cover the entire 12 months.
4) Yes - a police certificate is required. I don't know if you can reuse the one you provided for your previous work permit.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I didn't actually need a police clearance for my WHV, that's why I ask. For the WHV I simply put together a "declaration of the absence of any criminal record" & that was fine. Not sure how quickly I can get a police clearance from Germany.

Do you happen to know where I can find a list of documents required for the YP visa? The CIC website is pretty vague on that and I don't seem to be able to get more information without actually lodging the application.
