We are in the same shoes as i am a Chemical engineer as well.

We discussed this issue in the other Quebec thread

You could register with the professional body before you apply for a CSQ. The body is called OIQ visit their website and take it from there
Would you agree with me on this? http://www.oiq.qc.ca/fr_index.html. I was at MICC this morning and a gentleman told me that the only way he could be part of oiq is actually if he is already here and the reason is that it is more expensive to become a member from outland.

Guys,

My partner and I going to have our interview on 11th October 2010. She is a Teacher as qualifications and 4 years of experience................. does she need to register with any reglulatory body as she is in a profession governed by a professional order in Québec?

Many Thanks
Mef

Hi beauhoe, JayJay & All

What does it mean, do we need permit to practise our profession, if so if we can apply with our degree we will get the permit or do we undergo any exams to prove ourself and to get permit.. please share ur suggestions..

Hi Beauhoe,
I will really apprecite if you can help me on one issue. Well, i am going to submit my application soon for federal. I don't know how long it might take for them to make a decision on my case (Malaysia VO). I am assuming one year. However, i got a job here for 2-3 years here on contract basis and I will have to stay here for tht period of time.
1. I would like to know if I can travel to Canada for one to two weeks, applying for PR card, SIN and then come back to Malaysia
2. Since i am intending to stay for two weeks only, i will just go to my sister's place in Toronto and not quebec. I won't be doing my landing formalities in quebec. Will tht be wrong? am assuming the immigration officers will accept my sisters's address as to deliver PR card?
3. How long is the PR card valid? And can i return back to canada with the PR card only afterwards? Will i need any travel documents afterwards?
Regards
Shahzad

Welcome to this forum my friend,
Yes, once you get your visa you can land, stay for two weeks and go back to Malaysia. During your staying, you will get your SIN number the same day you apply and the card in 5 to 7 days. PR card will take 4 to 6 weeks and can be sent to your sister's. The validity of your PR card is 5 years. You can also stay in Toronto with your sister and will be able to apply for your health insurance card once you decided to come back and stay in Quebec. I will recommend you to land here in Quebec and then go to Toronto.
Cheers,
