Shahi
Hey Shahi! No worries for your interview, is going to be pretty good and you will get CSQ same day. Your interview is going to be in direct, face to face interview with the officer. Generally, they are very nice (part of the culture here) and will make you feel comfortable. Control yourself and be honest and clear in your responses. It is simple; just imagine yourself talking about your project to immigrate to Canada with one of your friends. Try to convince him of your best and biggest project ever. Show interest, passion, commitment, joy and the degree of excitement you have on working on this project. Show the officer that you can't wait to see you dream comes true. However, you are fully aware of the realities and responsibilities that you will have to face soon. Take this officer to the dream land and by the time he/she realize it, your CSQ will already be in your hands.
Strategy: I would suggest that you go to a smiling restaurant and eat some smile food to put smile on your face before you meet the officer. Remember of the power of smile, you can get anything you want if you can just smile at people. If you don't have it do not fake it!
1. Organize your documents (the original ones) so when he ask you to show him paper A for instance, you don't get lost and nervous. You still have about a month to get ready, take a good care of your doc. I am sure that you have the list of the original documents that they would like you to bring that day.
2. Get ready to tell the officer the reasons why you decided to immigrate to Canada. If you don't have the good one, let us know people will come and share their experiences with you.
3. If things did not work the way you would like? Do you have a plan B or Z?
4. What do you know about Quebec? Read a little bit about the culture and geography. I know that you are very good in French and language should not be an issue for you. Be focus on the most important things you do not need a lot of information.
I hope that this helps and we are looking forward for the good news.
Cheers,

Shahi,
Here we go:
How to obtain an engineer's permit
You earned your degree in another country

You can obtain a permit application form from the Order by clicking here.

Be sure to enclose the following materials with your duly completed application:

Payment of the permit application fee.
A copy of your birth certificate.
A recent passport-sized photo (5 cm X 7 cm), bearing your signed certification that it is of you.
All university degrees supporting the application or certification of their award.
Official transcripts for each of the degrees submitted in support of your application, without exception. An official transcript must be sent directly to the Order from the educational institution that produced it.
Upon request from the Order, descriptions of your courses.
If applicable, a detailed summary of your relevant on-the-job experiences since the completion of studies leading to the engineering degree, as well as certifications for each such experience.
Important: for instructions regarding the letters of reference, click here »»
To view an example of a résumé, click here
If applicable, certifications of participation in training or professional development activities since you were awarded your engineering degree.
Where applicable, documents proving that your knowledge of French is adequate for engaging in professional activities.
You must also provide an official translation of any documents not produced in French or in English. This translation must be accompanied by a sworn statement from a translator.

Your application will be reviewed by the Examiners Committee and a decision will be made based on the information contained in your file.

1. You have been awarded a degree that is covered by one of the various recognition agreements concluded with organizations that have standards and accreditation procedures meeting Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) requirements
The committee may:

Recognize the equivalency of your degree.

Or

Require confirmatory examinations if:
The degree you submit was earned five or more years prior to the date of your permit application.

And if:

The knowledge acquired no longer corresponds with contemporary course content.

And if:

The relevant on-the-job experience acquired since you earned your degree will not allow you to achieve the required level of knowledge.
2. Your undergraduate engineering degree is not recognized by the Government of Quebec and is not deemed equivalent by the Order
The committee may recommend that:

You take confirmatory examinations to determine your level of knowledge. The number of such examinations will depend on the institution that issued your degree, on any graduate engineering degree that you may have earned and the number of years of experience that you have acquired.
3. You have been awarded an undergraduate degree in pure or applied science or in technology, at least equivalent to a bachelor's degree. (At least 16 years of education)
The committee may recommend that:

You successfully complete a qualifying examination program. This will require that: (Hyperlink to: Examination Guidelines)
Your training is, at the outset, deemed equivalent to that of a bachelor's degree.
The number of examinations required to complete your training in a specialty recognized by the Order is not excessive.
The Examiners Committee will review your file once you have met all requirements. Depending on the situation, the committee will recommend either that your degree be deemed equivalent or that you pursue additional training to enable you to obtain your junior engineer's permit. You will be entered on the roll of the Order as a junior engineer once you have returned the Order's enrolment form and paid all fees.

Upon being entered on its roll, you become an official member of the Order. Under the law you may begin using the title of junior engineer at that time. You must pursue your efforts to obtain an engineer's permit from the time you are entered on the roll.

List of organizations linked through recognition agreements
Commission des titres d'ingénieurs (France)

Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (United States)

Engineering Council of South Africa (degree holders as of 1999)

The Engineering Council (United Kingdom) (degree holders as of 1989)

The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (degree holders as of 1995)

The Institution of Engineers (Australia) (degree holders as of 1989)

The Institution of Engineers of Ireland (degree holders as of 1989)

The Institution of Professional Engineers (New Zealand) (degree holders as of 1989)

I know that this is important for you so I decided not to take time to answer you.
Yes, you need licence to pratice and to get the licence, you have to become a member of OIQ. Visite this site: http://www.oiq.qc.ca/practice/permits/junior-permits/degree-other-country.html and let me know if you need more help.
Enjoy your reading my friend,

Hi Beauhoe,
thanks for the valuable info you are giving us. I will really appreciate if you can give me some advice. I asked on the forum and i was told tht Montreal will be better place for non-french speaker to settle down. I have a degree in radio systems engineer and 12 month part time experience. I have searched for online jobs in my sector and everywhere they asked to be bilingual. I am worried abt this as my french level is zero. My wife has one yr working experience as credit officer in a bank and she speaks fluent english and french. she has a degree in financial management from UK. How much can she earn on clerical level in accounting/finance sector? Will the UK degree be acceptable in Quebec?
Regards
Shahzad

I am glad that the information is helpful and please let me know if you have more question. I will try to do my best to assist you. No, my interview was very simple as soon as I entered the room the officer handled me my CSQ because he could not support the power that I brought with me that day. I took him to the dream land and leave him there.
Cheers,

Beauhoe & Shahi..

Thank you both for such helpful conversation..which definitely will help many of us (me first! :D)
You both really enrich the forum :)

Shahi,

My simple advice is..first is first!
You don't have to worry about OIQ licensing now. There are some other steps prior to reach this one.
On the interview u won't be asked about "licensing process" at all!
So, focus on the interview and how you convince the consular/officer of ur case & eventually get the CSQ, and I am SURE you will do. I trust u!

My case is almost the same as yours, but I really don't think about licensing at this point.
First is first!

Beauhoe,

Have you sent the mail already?! ;)

Please could you tell me if there is any way your wife could become the principal applicant? Make sure that she really wants to migrate to here (Canada) before you start the procedure.

Hi Beauhoe,
We already have our CSQ and submitted our application for PR in the first week of October to the VO in Malaysia. My wife is the main applicant. Now, we are just considering the areas we can settle down in Quebec where atleast one of us can find a job of $14-15 per hour to survive. Due to my language restriction, we are worried that it will be difficult for me to find a job and furthermore, i have only 12 month part time working experience. Based on online research, we are thinking that $1,400 will be enough to survive for one month.
I will really appreciate if you can tell how much tax we have to pay on our salary in quebec.
Regards
Shahzad
