Hello my friends,
Yesterday I open basic bank account with CIBC. Documents needed: Two IDs, one with photo. I went there with my Passport (visa and landing confirmation) and my SIN.
Conditions (for basic account): The Bank charge $3, 90 per month with 10 operations. So if I use my card ten times in a month, the bank will take $3, 90 from my account. If I do more operations after the tenth time, I will be charge $0, 65 for each operation. The only way I can avoid the first $ 3, 90 is if I you have $1000 in my account every month. Transfer money from One CIBC account to another CIBC account is free. Internet banking is considered to be operation so watch out.
The bank also offers checks (100 for $2, 50 if I remember correctly).
The lady was very nice, she told me that she is from NS and worked in Montreal for couple of years. She was transferred to Hull seven months ago. She also told me about her family and she looks very happy with what she is doing. During our conversation, she was trying to cover her boops even though they were well covered. Believe me I wasn't concerned about that at all, I was listen to see if there is anything from the conversation that could help me make my transition easier. Well, I finally paid the price because instead of 10 min, my first bank account in Canada took me 55 min. She gives me her business card and asked me to contact her if I need some help.
Cheers,
