Has anyone utilized the Writ of Mandamus to get a decision on their application? I understand there are requirements to be eligible, just wondering if anyone went through with it. Did you go through a lawyer or do it yourself?

Someone in Mississauga claimed it worked for them. Check out the Mississauga applicants thread. Someone claimed that the MP's enquiry also speeded up things. Could be a coincidence or could be not, we'll never find out.

I'm from the same office, and reached out to a lawyer last week. They suggested that given the recent announcement by IRCC about timelines and steps being taken to clear the backlog, I wait for six months. If I don't receive an oath but then, they would file it for me. It's not a cheap option. I have received quotes from lawyers between $1800 - $7500 so really don't know what the real cost of filing it is. I am certainly hoping I don't have to file it, & just have to be patient for the next few months.

Thanks for the tip!

I have been calling around about it to a few law firms and I am getting the same range of fees. Some say not to go through it at all because IRCC will claim Covid-19 as a crutch; but I have seen online that a judge granted it to an applicant while maintaining that other government agencies have resumed operations with Covid-19 and that it is not considered a good enough excuse not to see progress.

I am a july 2019 applicant. BG completed in October 2019, Test in july 2021, Passport request in August 2021. No movement since.. filed Mandamus on feb 24th 2022, got a reply saying my application is in process. Ghost update march 3 2022 (probably someone checking to reply to court that my file is in process). Currently waiting to file record. Currently outside Canada maybe that's why the delay in the file ?idk

LAawyer charged 1200$ for filing mandamus, additional 1700$ for filing record.. so Im very broke and angry

Sorry to hear about your experience. I was advised by a lawyer to wait for 6 months. I’m glad I did. Recently took the oath and got the certificate.
Being outside Canada could be a big factor in this - one can never say with certainty. My reading is that different offices are operating at different wavelengths within a prescribed range about processing applicants who are currently outside Canada.

I filed for Mandamus and it worked for me, my application was struck after citizenship test which i gave in the month on Jan 2021 and there was no update at all. Also, I applied in Oct 2020 so almost 20+ months and people who were applying after me were getting approved and has Canadian passports. I was frustrated and found about this process, this process is stage wise don't pay the whole bundle fees to any lawyer. I went through this lawyer and he had zoom call for free and told me to go with stage wise process because it was citizenship application. https://atimmigrationlaw.com/
