Hello everyone! My husband and me are still in the process of getting everything together and prepared for our immigration package for him to come here. He recently got back his police check. On it, there are several traffic misdemeanors (such as driving without insurance, and a few minor accidents here and there, some his fault others not, and speeding tickets etc.). Do you think that this would be a cause of concern for immigration? One of them he had to go to court over. Everything was fine, there was just a mistake that happened with his insurance. All of these were from many years ago. I know that they can want an interview if there is something on the police check (which can of course delay processing a ton) but I thought that interviews are requested just with serious things. I hope I am correct...?

Also, do I need the original for my Option C Printout, or just a photocopy?

And when he gets his medical (he will be early next month) will he get his papers/forms from the appointment on the same day so we can send out the application right after?

For the 4 photographs that he needs for the application, where can he get these done? Walmart, etc.?

Thanks! Sorry for all the questions, we just don't have anywhere else to turn.

For the photos just make sure they are the correct specs and size. It doesn't matter where you get them done, Walmart, shoppers or a independent photo shop .

An original Option C printout . you can call Canada Revenue for this 1-800-959-8281
As for his traffic offences i wouldn't worry ,if he had A DUI then i would be concerned .

Ok thanks. I was just a little worried because I remember seeing somewhere on the forum in the past that if there is anything that shows up on the police check that you can get called for an interview. I just figured traffic violations would be ok, it's not a felony or anything. But was still a bit concerned that it might raise an issue or questions... so I would hope not.

I do already have the Option C, but was wondering if I would need to include the original in the application, or a photocopy.

I guess he will probably just get the pictures done at Walmart. I just wasn't sure where he could have them done. I will get him to bring in the piece of paper that shows the proper measurements, etc.

Does anyone know if you get the medical forms back on the same day as the exam? We wanted to put them in with the application and send it off right after.

Thanks!

Must be the original Option C, and yes you get your medical proof right away. The doctor sends his/her portion to CIC themselves and you get a form as proof.

It depends on the traffic offence and how whether the equivalent offence in Canada is considered a criminal offence here. Minor speeding tickets and the driving without insurance won't cause a problem for you. More serious driving offences could. You'd really have to tell us exactly what his convictions were for.

Hi Bart,

Well most of the things are just minor things, like the police checks mention every little minor accident, whether it's his fault or not, and speeding tickets, etc. But the one I was concerned about, was he ended up driving with the wrong insurance, not realizing that he was mailed the new insurance that he was supposed to go with (this was after an accident I believe) because it was sent to a really old address. In the mail that was sent it also told him that if he didn't change over to this insurance that his license would be suspended. So he was also driving on a suspended license, but without realizing. Anyway, he ended up having to go to court and was charged and he paid the fine etc. He still sees this as just a traffic misdemeanor and nothing serious and doesn't think it's anything to worry about. I hope he is right. Just don't want our application delayed from an interview... not to mention the travel cost to get to the interview. We just don't have the money. Btw these things happened 8 years ago, so it's not anything recent.

The driving under suspension shouldn't be an issue either because it's not considered a criminal offence here in Canada. If that's the worst thing on his record, you should be fine.

If you have a Costco close by (in Canada) they know the measurements and requirements already, and will do them for like $7.99. Coming from the USA you will need 4 and they need to be identical, so make sure you tell them that the first time you go in, don't go in twice after remembering you need four like I did. Lucky for me the guy didn't charge me the second time. :p

Thanks Dewy! Neither of us have a membership for Costco so I imagine he will just go to Walmart. He will be getting them done in the US. Thank you though for the tips! I will be sure to remind him to get 4 :D

Make sure you have the info sheet, then, because I'd doubt a U.S. Walmart will know the requirements for the photos and it's different from a passport photo.

drive while under suspension, will it affect my husbands sponsorship?

hello everyone,

I need your help, yesterday my husband was charged with driving while under suspension. His license was suspended for medical reasons. Im just waiting for our marriage certificate so I can start my sponsorship with him. Will it affect my sponsorship with him due to this charges? Is it a criminal offence ?His visa too already expired and we already applied for an extension. Will this be affected too? Is there a good chance tht my sponsorship with him will be successful?

You should be fine for both his PR and his extenson application. It depends on whether he was charged under a provincial law (sounds like he was if the suspension was for medical reasons) or under the Criminal Code.
