Working remotely in Canada while applying for Express Entry visa

Hi everyone,

I am about to apply for the Express Entry visa.

In the meantime, I just got a job offer, from a British company (with a UK contract), to work as an international consultant. The company's Research Director is actually based in Toronto. Ideally, he would want me to be spending time in Canada. However, I would still remain a French resident, so I thought of coming to Canada for periods of 1-3 months, with return flights or flights abroad already booked. My questions are the following

1) Am I allowed to work remotely for this company from Canada, on a tourist visa? If I am correct, that would mean I can only stay up to 6 months a year in Toronto. I will be travelling at least 4-6 months this year, so it shouldn't be a problem.

2) If so, what should I say at the customs? Should I provide a proof of employment abroad and a certificate of residency from the country I live in (France)?

3) Finally, would this professional opportunity jeopardize my chances for getting the Express Entry visa? Specifically, would the customs wonder why I am entering the country "so often" (probably no more than three times) for such a long period? Would they interpret it as me entering the country to work "illegally" in Canada? Finally, am I simply allowed to travel to Canada while submitting my application?

Thank you for your help!

Does the company have any clients / customers in Canada? If so, then you need a work permit.

The University of Toronto is one of the company (research institute)'s partner, but the company is solely based in the UK. I don't know if in this case, UFT would be a client/customer..

Thanks for your message. The company is based in the UK, with no offices in Canada. It's a Research institute, with affiliates and research partners with other universities. I will be employed in the UK as an international consultant, allowed to work from anywhere contractually. Moreover, I will get paid by the UK company, in my French account. Can you confirm that it's ok?

Also, will I still be able to apply for the Express Entry visa? Will this be an issue?

Thank you

If u do all proper and maintain ur legal staus u wont have any issue in ur EE.

Business visitor can visit and stay for less than 6 month period.

What is a business visitor?
A business visitor is someone who comes to Canada to engage in international business activities without directly entering the Canadian labour market. For example, someone who comes to Canada to meet people from companies doing business with his or her country would be a business visitor.

Visitors may come to Canada to observe site visits. Alternatively, a Canadian company may have invited them to Canada for training in product use, sales or other functions related to a business transaction.

Business visitors must prove that their main source of income and their main place of business are outside Canada.

Great, thank you for your help. I guess I should have a document attesting the reason of my visit.

As a follow-up question, am I still allowed to apply for Express Entry, despite travelling for up to 6 months in Canada? I have heard from difference sources that if I apply for Express Entry, I will not be allowed in Canada until my application has been fully accepted, or refused.
