I'm currently an international student about to start a new program in January, 2018. I would like to know if it's legal to work a 20 hour minimum wage cash job between November 2017 and January 2018. I have my study permit but will not be attending classes until next year.

No it is 100 percent illegal to work before classes start whether cash or not it is still work.

Up to you of course if you want to break the law but these things have a habit of coming back later when applying for work permits or PR where you might end up misrepresenting what you where doing during these months. If found out somehow you will look back and think how could you have been so stupid for sake of a few months cash work to affect your longer term future, so stick to the rules.

Just to add, working under the table for cash is also illegal. Not a particularly good idea to be breaking the law in a foreign country.....like that won’t affect any future plans you have in Canada if they find out.

Thank you all for your great advice. I'll be sure to look for a SIN job in January while attending classes.
