work permit under CCFTA ( Canada Chile free trade agreement )

Hello, All,

Has anyone out there applied ( and obtained ) a work permit under the CCFTA?

or does anyone have any knowledge of this type of work permit?

I want to apply for one work permit under CCFTA after I finish my program of study here in Canada,
but I'm not sure if a certificate program from BCIT would qualify.

Is your profession one of the ones listed in the CCFTA? The majority require a Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree, though some allow for a Post-Secondary Certificate with 3 years of experience.

I believe so. I am a programmer/web developer, and I briefly spoke to my boss about it
and he told me that I could fall under the 'Computer Systems Analyst' or 'Graphic Designer' categories.

Both of those professions allow for a Post-Secondary Certificate along with 3 years of experience. If you have the relevant experience and the job offer, you can apply.

The reason why I was confused was because my lawyer told me
that it was a Diploma and 3 yrs of experience.

The differences between Certificate and Diplomas are still a bit hazy for me, but from what I've looked so far is that Certificates and shorter courses than Diplomas.

To be more specific, I am interested in either of these courses

They are both 'Associate Certificate' programs.

Does and Associate Certificate differ in any way from a Certificate program, from the
CIC's perspective?

PS: I'm trying to be careful when I choose my program of study, so I don't get a rejection by the time
I apply for the work permit.

Sorry, can't answer that one. You may want to call BCIT and CIC to see what both say.
