Work Permit to Study Permit (in Canada)

Hello everyone, this thread is to all who are changing their status from work to study permit, obviously all are currently in Canada. Share your timeline: ex. work permit expiry, submission date of study permit application, class intake month & year.


WP expiry date : Jan 27, 2016
Acceptance letter : just passed my entrance examination last week, now waiting for the AL from the inst.
Class Intake : March 2016

I was a TFW until my work permit expires last january. I am currently on visitor permit and I am planning to study.

Workpermit expiration : january 2015
Applied and approved visitor permit : till july 2015
Letter of acceptance status: "Offer conditional" currently on process ( applied on june 2015)
Applied for visitor permit extension: july 15, 2015 ( hoping for approval)
Class intake: january 2016

Will apply for study permit at L.A. California once my extension got approved.

-and you said study permit in L.A. Cali, so in the US not here in Canada, right?

Offer conditional means that there is a condition that I must meet before I get my letter of acceptance.
In my case, I only need to submit my transcript of record directly from my previous university back home then they will sent me my LOA once they got my transcript.

Since my current status is vistor, I have to apply from my home country or at canadian visa office in Los Angeles, USA. I believed that if you are currently on student or work permit, you can apply INSIDE Canada.

What do you mean what happened? I wanted to go back to University, got accepted into a good one and decided to study.

If you are asking about the conversion process, I applied online through mycic from canada,with upfront medical, my application date is May 17th and still waiting for approval. Intake Sept 2015.

Hi I was have some questions about a work permit for a international student. I am currently enrolled in a part time course and I have been in Canada for 4 years. I am looking to work full time after I graduate.What steps should I be taking to ensure I can obtain a work permit? Would I have to be enrolled in full time program? If anyone has been through this or has some info that they are able to help me with my situation I would be very grateful.
