Work permit photocopy when applying for PR & Question about old forms

Hi everyone,

My girlfriend has gotten her CSQ in July and initially applied in August for the federal stage getting permanent residency... she was under temporary student status that expired in September of last year... we sent a copy of her study permit then. Since then she received a post graduate work permit.

Her application was sent back to us in November due to a missing signature... and we sent back her application in November... which means her student permit had expired, and we forgot to switch it out for a copy of her work permit which she received in september.

Could this be a huge issue for us? Will CIC already be able to check that she has a valid work permit on their end anyway?

Thanks in advance, we're very worried we're going to get it back in the mail a second time...

On top of that, we may have made another costly mistake. We basically resent the same application with the added signature on the form that was missing one... so it looks like we may have sent outdated forms since some were apparently updated since our initial application in August. That could also be another problem for us that would lead to them sending it back, right?


We resent the application on November 4th and it was received a couple of days later, but the IMM0008 form was from our first application in August, and it was last updated in November 2015... not sure if it was before or after we sent it. Also, the document checklist was the same old one from August as well, and that was updated in October.

Ugh, this is so stressful, pretty much on the verge of a nervous breakdown here

Don't worry, since you send the docs in November for second time and you write her status in the form as worker instead of student, and also submitt her new post graduate work permit, it will be OK, because what they look at if the second time, and the first time has passed, no effection in your case.

Hi, the problem is that we actually didn't do that the second time, we resent the same form mentioning that she was a student, alongside a copy of her study permit (which wasn't expired the first time, but was expired the second!). We didn't send a copy of her work permit, which is why I'm worried

Do you think we'll still be ok?

I got confused, in your second time, did you modified the main form, the status of application from "student" to "worker"? If yes, you are fine, if not, I think you will get problem.

We didn't, unfortunately We just kept it as student, and included her now expired study permit (it expired in September). We did have a cover letter explaining that she had applied for her post-graduate work permit so she would still be under legal status... and we have the work permit now... but CIC has no way of knowing that it seems

OK, this would be a problem in the future for sure, up to now, do you receive her work permit or not?

Yeah we did receive her work permit, but we already sent back the application without it

so what you could do is contact CIC and explain this and tell them you will send a new form and the work permit, ask them they allow this. It is better than your case is send back again.

Could we instead wait to receive AOR and then inform CIC of her status change? Or will the application just be sent back to us without AOR? We sent it back on November 4th and haven't heard anything since... no AOR yet or anything.

I know what you mean, no AOR no file number, but now it is still possible to locate your file, call them and tell all information to find your application, If you do nothing right now, they may contact you to request you submitt the work permit, or they also might reject you. At the end, you have nothing to lose by tring right now, the worst case is your file be send back, which I am almost 100% sure.

For sure they will find it, your form will be read by machines that is the bar code used for, so do not take chance by imaging they will not find it. It will only creat more problems and you waste time.
