Work permit extention while having 1 year validity

Is it possible to apply for extention of my work permit if I still have 13 months validity? The reason for this is to be eligible to apply for Spouse open work permit for my wife. I have a closed work permit and will renew after getting new employment offer from the same employer

So when are you applying for extension because if you still have 13 months left the IRCC isn't going to extend it yet. So your plan is to get extension and then apply for SOWP once approved? You can try it but may not work. May only get a couple months extension. What is your NOC? Where is spouse?

Job title: postdoctoral fellow. NOC: 21110 - Biologists and related scientists. Then when am I allowed to apply for extention? How many months before expiray of my work permit?

You apply at least 30 days prior to expiry so would apply 4 months before. If you apply a year ahead then good chance of refusal. Need to be eligible for WP extension (LMIA/LMIA exemption, job offer).
