Hello,

I am in Montreal since October 2016 on a work permit, working as a postdoctoral scholar at McGill. Now I would like to extent my work permit (ends June 2nd, 2017). I completed the IMM5710E form and my employer has paid the employer compliance fee for the LMIA exempt. However, when I login at the CIC website (and after confirming eligibility for a work permit extension) I am asked if I have the LMIA, and if I answer no I am not allowed to proceed any further. Where can I mention that I am LMIA exempt?

I would appreciate any help, since trying to reach somebody on the phone at CIC has proven unsuccessful...

Antonis

Ok, hoping that I will be able to clarify that I am LMIA exempt later, I answered yes to the LMIA question (see below). Unfortunately, my list of required documents in the ned contains also two documents that do not apply in my case:
1. Proof that you Meet the Requirements of the Job Being Offered (required)
2. Certificat d'acceptation du Québec (CAQ) (required)

The problem is that without uploading them I cannot proceed to payment. Can anyone help? I am probably doing something completely wrong but I really have no clue what...

Thanks again,
Antonis

Dear Friend,
I have precisely your same situation. I work in University of Ottawa, although I am paid from Italy. The same questions, except the family member in Canada. Have you resolved? How have you applied?
I am tempted to send the application with an "yes" to LMIA, and attaching my LMIA exemption receipt and the generic offer of emplyment (although it is surely not permanent, neither paid from the University of Ottawa), although I fear rejection.

I hope you had good luck,

Best Regards

You needed to choose that " I'm on academic exchange, conducting research or taking training". After that, you will be treated as an LMIA-exempt.

The only issue, nowm is the " Offer of Employment " : If you are paid by a foreign institution, it is hard to judge what to attach...

Hi
Can you update about your applications/questions?
Spl. about "Which situation best describes your work situation?"

I am also applying for extension of postdoc offer (in Ontario). Answer (None of the above) of this question results in requirement to answer about LMIA and upload a document of LMIA.
As post-doc are LMIA exempt, I am confused on this question. Please help.

If I choose this "academic exchange" option, then it results in upload the "Invitation Letter". So what did you upload for that?
Please help.
