Thanks for providing this info. Did you crossed your 180 days eligible extension period on maintained status? If yes, how did you manage this situation?

Yes, I passed the date shown on the WP EXT letter. I showed this to my employer https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/work-canada/permit/temporary/extend/after-apply.html#online
Additionally, I sent a webform and they said that I could continue working until there was a decision because I still had maintained status.

Hi, same here

2024 04 22 / Applied for PGWP extension (paper)
2024 09 16 / application number provided. linked to GCKEY (146 days)

No news at the moment… (157 days)

Thanks everyone for writing about realistic timelines… not knowing when to expect the WP generates a lot of anxiety.

I hope you won't have to wait as long as we have. I’m currently on day 204 of waiting for the final decision, and I still haven’t received any updates. God willing, I hope for a positive decision next week, especially since it seems that others have received their permits after an average processing period of around 200 days.

I am realizing there is no system whatsoever and there could be unthinkable reasons that determine the processing time of an application...including luck.

I have submitted an inland OWP application on May 5th (147 days ago). The processing time they update every week - going up every time + 5/7 days ...I have spent countless hours on different forums trying to get an idea how it goes for other applicants with similar timelines and it only confuses me more than ever every time I find out about other's processes... I have seen applications (same category as mine) being approved within a couple of weeks for some and about a year for others...while someone goes through exact amount of days that IRCC indicates...

I have submitted IRCC webforms as my application has exceeded normal processing times over a month ago - no difference so far... I am planning to call MP on Monday, going to give it a shot. I'm questioning now if I should do flagpolling...I did not know about this method before and just learning on these forums from others, I would appreciate if someone gives some tips on that...

But hey, staying positive and keeping my mind sane :)

Peace!

Hello!
I have created a mind map to make sense of how the system is organized:
There are two ways to apply :

ONLINE (New applications, Open Working Permit) - These are the fastest 2-4 months, easier to follow up since day 1, and you get a letter that helps with some documents.

PAPER (PGWP and OWP Extensions and changes) - These are the worst, and you don't receive any confirmation letter during the process,

1. confirmation that they received the application only happens through webform after 2-3 months when you are provided with a provisional application number.
2. From what I read in this forum, the applications are just sitting there (backlog of 60k+ applications) waiting to be reviewed, archived by months (150-180 days / 4-6 moths).
3- I also read that there is a draw process where they choose the ones to process, that is how they are selected and definitive application numbers are provided (in fact both, the provisional and the definitive application numbers are the same, the only difference is an 'x' at the beginning of the identifier).
4. Once you have a definitive application number (which means your application entered the draw), the waiting period is 1-2 months.

PAPER APPLICATIONS

(day 1) Reception - Confirmation is shipping tracking number
(day 150-180) Receives definitive application-Enters draw
(day 180-210) Application is Processed
(day 210-220) Answer

:)

Hi there! That's an interesting wrap up, however, your conclusion about online applications, unfortunately, is not correct...and me and other applicants who also share their experience on this type of forums are great examples.

Thanks for correcting it. Well, is it the same timelines for online and paper applications? 7-8 months? I understand that one can only apply on paper to extensions within Canada. Is it the same timeline for those applying elsewhere online? According to the IRCC processing times that varies between countries… Just wondering where is the bottle neck…

Submitted a renewal of a work permit for my spouse online earlier this week as her work permit will expire later in Dec. 2024. There would have been no need to fork over $255 if the IRCC had done their job and got PR cards to us in a reasonable time frame. I suppose these may still arrive before year end. Still waiting after 2 yrs, and the IRCC tracker has been stuck for months on a supposed security check for one individual, ridiculous. Our application is listed as non-routine, whatever the hell that means.

We did receive a confirmation letter that allows my spouse to work until March 2025 while the application is being processed. Processing times listed for renewal of a work permit was a stellar 128 days.

One of the docs we needed to upload was a digital photo which seemed odd considering we already did that on the initial online application in 2022.

Anyways will see how this plays out with this incompetent federal department.
