Work history/status when applying for citizenship

How important is one's work history/status when applying for citizenship? If one decides to change job, or go back to school, or simply take a year off to travel inside Canada, will that cause any trouble to the application?

I checked the current citizenship requirements, as well as the new bill C-24, and found no mention anywhere about work requirement, however I just wanted to be sure about this since there are few people who got RQed and were asked about their employment history/status.

Thanks

Vince

ps: I obtained PR under the international student stream, have stayed with the same employer for the last 3 years but am considering relocation.

You dont have to work to become citizen.
Current requirement is to spend 1095 days inside Canada.
My wife if housewife and is not working since day 1 in Canada and her application as per CIC agent is complete. Hope this explains.

I totally understand this is true for sponsored PR, but not sure about whether there are any "hidden rules" for skilled workers type of PR obtained by CEC (Canadian experience class), or PNP (Provincial nominees program).

It *shouldn't* matter. But in reality it does. Someone without full-time employment or is self-employed is at more risk of an RQ. Though I think full-time student is ok.

As long as I meet the requirements as they wanted (1095+ PR days, English proficiency, pass citizenship test), I should not be worried about an RQ, or should I?
I mean will they reject my application just because I choose to travel/relax (inside Canada) instead of work, given that I meet all the "explicit" requirements?

They won't reject your application. But they can slow it down by scrutinizing your application closer (RQ). From what I have heard, to avoid RQ, CIC looks for strong ties to Canada. Things that require you to spend a lot of time here. Like a full-time job where the position is physically in Canada. Or if you are a full-time student. Or if you are a stay-at-home parent with children who are students in a school here. Strong ties mean they will take your word for it that you meet the required days. If you have a lot of time spent outside Canada and do not have something that requires your presence in Canada, then they may target you for an RQ because they want other proof that you spent your time in Canada.
