0125 – Other business services managers

1123- Professional occupations in advertising, marketing and public relations

4163- Business development officers and marketing researchers and consultants

I have some confusion related to NOC codes while filling up the work history section of the EE profile. I would seek the guidance of seniors or experts who have faced similar situation.

First of all I would like to understand what is more important to determine NOC code – job title or function in the organization?

Now, I have been working as a research manager for a reputed communications agency from over two years. So I assume my primary noc code while filling up the EE profile is 0125 (as other business services managers include manager of market research service). Correct me if I am wrong.

I have been an integral part of a marketing function of a mid-sized IT companies in my previous jobs. My job title here was Research Analyst and Senior Research Executive. It has been exclusively mentioned in my job description as my main role is to provide research support through amassing market intelligence and information for augmenting the sales and business development teams. In addition, I am required to conduct surveys, author reports, present findings, identify business opportunities and make slide decks. This is typically the role of a research analyst (NOC 4163). Now since it has been explicitly mentioned in my job description as I belong to marketing function, should I consider HERE my NOC code as 1123.

Job titles are irrelevant. What matters is that your job description matches the summary description for the NOC, and you perform some or all of the job duties listed for the NOC.

I'm no expert for the types of jobs you are seeking input on - in fact, you are best positioned to determine what description and job duties best fit the reality (or rather what your employers described your job to be in the reference letter).

In the end, it comes down to this: the CIC officer will compare your reference letters with the description and duties of the NOC code. If he's satisfied the two match, you're good to go.

So, ask yourself: if you were an CIC officer, which NOC code would you most likely accept to reflect your actual job?

Only you can answer that question.
Thnx dan_and

This was really insightful.

I will evaluate between 4163 and 0125 as I feel my role is very closely associated to it. But again it will not be very much relevant, if I show my current profile as manager of research services under 4163 instead of 0125

Hello,

Please consider this not-so-hypothetical scenario. The applicant works in a well known multi-national corporation. He is unable to procure an experience letter that lists out his roles and responsibilities. He is able to only submit the employment contract (which also does not describe the nature of work) and salary slips. Will the CIC officer, by virtue of the corporation being well-known (in Canada as well), be able to satisfy himself of the NOC?

I know it's difficult to say but I'd be grateful if anybody who's been in similar situations can share their experiences/thoughts.

Thank you.

Hi Nirav,

Here in 2018, I am exactly in your shoe. Please let me know, which NOC code did you go with, and what was your experience.

Thank you, in advance for any insight that you could provide.

Best,
Ricky
