1. No work experience gained while being a full time student in Canada can be counted. No points for those. Only exception to this is NOC 4012.
2. Paid NOC 0/A/B work experience acquired within the last 10 years while being a full time student OUTSIDE of Canada can be counted towards CRS points for foreign work experience and/or FSW eligibility points. Of course, this has to be supported with a valid reference letter.
3. Such experience will be part time or full time depending on the number of hours worked/week in addition to full time studies. If hours/week were less than 30, they would count as such. If more than 30, it will be treated as a full time experience.
Hi Asivad,
Thanks for the explanation!
Based on what you said in your fist point, my understanding is that if I worked as a Teaching Assistant while studying as a full time student in Canada, I will be able to count the experience towards Canadian work experience. May I confirm with you if this understanding is correct?
Additionally, I have 2 work experiences which I am not sure if they should be counted towards my work experience, could you please kindly share your thoughts on whether they can be counted for Canadian work experience with me?
1. Teaching Assistant - May 2012 - August 2012 - I was doing my last and only course left for my undergrad degree, because I was only taking 1 course I was considered as a part time student by the school. I did not have a PGWP at the time though.
2. Senior Tax Associate - September 2015 - October 2015 - I returned to school for a Master program and studied as a full time student beginning September 2015, my PGWP did not expire until October 5, 2015. Considering I still had a valid PGWP in September, do you think I could count my hours during September 2015 towards my work experience?
Thank you very much for your time and help!
Best regards
Justin
