Work experience on a Home run business

Hello everyone,

Just a quick question,

I was helping my Dad with this retail stationery store - a home run business for a period of one year. I haven't added to this to my Express Entry profile yet.

Please help me with the correct NOC code and about adding this experience to my profile as its a family business.

Any advices or suggestions is highly appreciated.

Were you officially employed? Did you have a contract, pay stubs, set working hours, a set salary? What, officially, was your job?

yes, I was officially employed as a Retail Store Assistant, but the salary was paid in cash and I have reference letters for the same.

a store assistant job isn't skilled so it won't get you points. No need to include it in your work profile, only add it to your personal history after you get an ITA.

I work in our home run academy which deals with performing arts. It was established in 1989 but it is not registered with government. I am working here from 2014 till date and my salary is transferred to my bank account. My question is:

“ the academy and our residence is at same address, we reside at first floor of building, my mother is director of academy, my passport has same address as the academy’s, can you please suggest of it matters or not. I am just confused if the CIC will question it or no. Should i expalin this in a covering letter? Please give suggestions.

Yes. This is quite common in india for small business.

Well I dont think you have much option here. Be honest about the whole thing. I am not sure if retail store jobs are considered skilled jobs. I may be wrong..

No no, its not a retail store. Its an academy, like a school, an performing arts school dealing specially with music. I joined the school after my studies and now i manage everything other than academics.

I think, it would be easy for you if you go as per IT returns filed by you to prove it. If you filed as salaried show salaried and if as self employed go with that. Easier to prove to IRCC in-case needed.
