Hello
I need help. Here is my situation. I came to Canada as a student along the line claimed refugee. I got in touch with my senior brother who doesn’t want me to go through with my claim. He has promised to sponsor my education. I still have my passport and my study permit. Can I still go to school here in Canada or I have to leave as soon as I withdraw my claim? Please someone help me. Thank you

You will need to leave Canada.

The refugee application put in place a removal order which was put on hold while your application is being processed. Once you withdraw the refugee application, this triggers the removal order.

I just realized you still have your passport. Can you tell us more details about how far along your asylum claim is? Which steps have you already completed?

You can discontinue/Cancel your claim as long as your claim was not referred to IRB. That is before eligibility interview

Dear @scylla and @Simba112

Thank you for your valuable comments throughout everywhere in this forum. All respect to you both and to everyone like you who are willing to contribute their time and knowledge for the sake of everyone in need in an advice.

With regard to this thread, can you please elaborate more about whether a person (similar to the person who has started this thread) in the first stage of claiming asylum, that is submitting BOC and before the subsequent stages (medical, seizure of passport and bio, eligibility interview, claimant document and referral to IRB), in case such a person decides to withdraw their claim, can that person still keep their TRV (whether visitor, study) or any other valid permit through which that person has entered Canada?

Will submission of an asylum claim to IRCC alone trigger any action to be taken by IRCC, CBSA or others, for example to cancel the TRV or permit, put in effect a removal order?

Such a person who has submitted such an asylum claim in Canada, will he face any possible consequences whether in Canada or anywhere else?

In my personal opinion, maybe initiating an asylum claim, whether in Canada or anywhere else, will trigger at least caution that this person may do it again. Can this be the case?

No to all. That is not withdrawing but cancel a claim. You can only cancel claim if claim was yet to be referred to IRB. If you do so, you still keep your status, same way your other permit is active if referred to IRB. I will send you guideline later
