I am u.s citizen planning on visiting canada for 6 months. In that time i will be filling out paperwork for permanent residence. I plan to bring return ticket and employment letter but is that enough? Im worried ill be denied as the sponsorship application is not in system when ill be at cbsa boarder customs coming in to canada. do you think They will bring me in the second room for secondary questioning?

Obviously none of us know the answer to that because we can't see into the future, but as long as you don't give the officer the impression you're moving here (having letter & return tickets are great ways of demonstrating that) don't overstress about it.

It’s normal for people from the US or any visa exempt country to be granted 6 months on entry.

But depends on your travel history to Canada...is it your first visit?

On my wife’s first 2 visits she was straight in with just the passport stamp but on her 3rd visit (which was the 3rd in 2 years) she was sent off to secondary... still was ok they just gave her a 3 month visitor record which we still extended to 6 months through mycic.

Funny thing is when she returned a 4th time we were thinking she would get a real hard time as she had only been back home 4 months, yet they let her through with no secondary, just the passport stamp. Guess it depends on the officer, they just advised her to getting a PR sorted ( which she has now).

She was upfront about reason for returning again, to get married. It was her 4th visit in 2 years, with the stay getting longer each time. Think it was the officer giving her the benefit of the doubt and basically saying she needs to apply for PR. She did still have return ticket booked and funds to cover the stay but the officers aren’t stupid, just never lie to them about anything that’s what they don’t like.

I don’t think you will have any problems, even if sent to secondary.
