Will layoff affect my EE application with BCPNP?

Hi everyone,

I am currently waiting for my PR application to be finalized under Express Entry (EE) - Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) category. Here’s my situation:
  • My employer in BC helped me apply for BCPNP in early 2024
  • I used the provincial nomination to claim 600 additional points and submitted my EE profile. I was quickly invited and applied for PR.
  • As of now, all my eligibility checks are passed, medical and biometrics are completed, and I’m just waiting for the final decision.
  • My PNP certificate has already expired, but it had no employment restrictions (stated as "No" in the restrictions section).
My question is: If I get laid off before my PR is finalized, will it affect my PR application?

Since my nomination provided the extra 600 points, I am concerned whether IRCC could reassess my eligibility or require proof of continued employment. Given that my nomination had no employer restrictions and my PR is in the final stage, do I need to notify IRCC if I lose my job? I know that I will need to contact BCPNP for sure.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, it will affect. Once laid off, call the province and send webform to IRCC advising your current situation. IRCC has easily access to your employment situation. You will given time to fond another job

Yes you are required to notify IRCC and so should your employer. If you don’t notify IRCC you could receive a refusal based on misrepresentation which could even lead to a ban or loss of PR status at a later date if the misrepresentation is discovered.

Thanks for your response! What will then happen to my EE application? Will it still be moved forward, or it will be placed on hold until I find a new job?

Thanks! Regarding the new job I start to look for, does it need to match certain job title/NOC, or any job would suffice for BCPNP & IRCC?

I believe it needs to be the same BCPNP job requirement.
Others with more experience with BCPNP can comment.

Thanks. I actually just checked with BCPNP about this, and they confirmed that any job in BC would keep my nomination valid. I’m just not sure about IRCC and if it would be acceptable for me to take a temporary "easy job" like working in a restaurant while waiting for PR.
