Hello,

I am a Canadian citizen sponsoring my wife who's also in the country. We have submitted an inland application for PR and at the time we answered no to the question "are either of you pregnant" on the Relationship information and sponsorship evaluation IMM5532e form. We were planning to try to have kids after she become a permanent residence but this news caught us by surprise and she's pregnant.

How should I report this to CIC and do I have to provide a letter stating the change in situation or resubmit form IMM5532e with the correct info? Will she be required to take an X-Ray which I read on here is not recommended while pregnant?

Thanks in advance!

An x-ray is required to complete the medical and to approve the PR application. As you've said, most doctors recommend against having an x-ray while pregnant.

If she does not want to do the x-ray, then once it's time for the medical, she should complete the entire medical with the exception of the x-ray - and then notify CIC that she is pregnant and will complete the medical / take the x-ray after giving birth. CIC will then put the application on hold until after she has given birth and is able to complete the x-ray.

Hi

You don't need to notify IRCC of the pregnancy. Once the child is born, you can update them wih a copy of the birth certificate.

Hi canuck_in_uk, but won't this be considered as lying in the application? I am afraid CIC will ask why we never reported my wife's pregnancy and may cause problem because they will see that she's pregnant during the interview.

No, it's not lying. You were not pregnant when applying and you are not required to update them about a pregnancy mid-app. Also, your wife won't be pregnant at her landing interview, as the app will not be approved until after she has the child and then the X-ray.

What province are you in? Does your wife have provincial health coverage?

We are in Ontario and she is not covered by OHIP. I understand that the cost may come out of our pocket.

I just hope to take the correct steps with her PR application. Thank you for your help canuck_in_uk. Cheers!

As Syclla posted above that "an x-ray is required to complete the medical and to approve the PR application."

Please correct me if I am wrong that from my understanding the medical exam requirement is the step right before the PR interview.

Does this mean the PR application will continue to be processed up that point then it will be on hold until she can complete her medical examination

OR

Will they hold processing her PR application as soon as we notify CIC of the change in situation until she's given birth?

Unless you have red flags, there is no actual interview. There is the landing interview where she will become a PR but the medical is requested awhile before that.

There is no red flag. It's a straightforward spousal sponsorship application.

I am just worried that the application may get postponed because we reported that she's pregnant. She had to do a medical exam when extending her visa and we were advised by the nurse to also notify CIC why we can't complete the X-ray portion of the examination.

Will it continue to get processed because it will be great if it does to the point that CIC can confirm her PR eligibility so she can apply for OHIP?
