Why is it that people that apply outland get there pr so much sooner than those who applied inland, is seems unreasonable, also you would think Canada would want there new immigrants to be , working asap.. yet they make these people wait for years. I thought the imm law required appl to be only 6 months for spousal appl....

I've asked myself the same question...

Once you become legal residence (PR) they expect you to work and support yourself.
Without a (LMO/work permit) it is illegal to work, and could even jeopardize your PR process.

However from their standpoint maybe they have the following logic:

1. To discourage most people from coming to Canada to live. It's ok to come visit and spend your money, but don't plan on living here unless EVERYTHING in order, both from your home country (bring lots of money) and here in Canada having a job a head of time.

2. In-land assumes you are already here in Canada with your family. Out-land assumes you are separated from your family. Which is the reason you want to immigrate.

Too bad I didn't throughly read these forums before I decided to come to Canada to be with my new (Canadian) wife. :(

Here's an excerpt from the website:

"Certain categories of applications are processed more quickly than others in order to meet public policy goals such as that of family reunification."

Inland people are already united with their family, so they prioritize outland applications.

The problem with this logic is that I am already here, and as a husband can not legally work to support my family.

This specific discrimination process has caused us to nearly separate because of my inability to (legally) work to support myself and my family.

That's unfortunate for you, but I would hope my husband's application would be processed faster than yours since we are on different continents, and he can't even come here to visit me.

I would choose to have him here NOT working, rather than working in another country where I am unable to see him, touch him, hold him, have everyday experiences with him.

Be greatful you are together.

I Understand your feelings I could not inmagine not being with my husband every day, but you must agree it would be a lot smarter if Canada imm would not let these people sit here, not be able to work and even worse we cant even go on a Holiday, see' if Canada imm would treat an inland appl the same as an outland, all people being sponsered would know if they can even stay here, and then they could be working and feel useful. I'm sure all inlanders agree this waiting feels like a game and it sucks...

ITS very hard on the relationship especially if in my case we had our first child and it was born in spain i could not leave her to work in canada and apply for the application, it would of token too much time and 1 year or 8 months is a very long time, in my case that would mean i would lose all that time with my wife and my new born , time i could never get back only in photos. which is not the same.

so i decided to leave canada, work hard and apply from outside of canada, at least when its time to go we leave as a family. it was my choice but i dont regret it.

best of luch, patience its whats needed in these cases, good luck too all

There still are many things with this long wait for inlanders that just doesnt go with what was being said on the news over and over, it was said that the government (Immigration) HAD to make things easyer on spousal sponserships, and speedyer. it seems unacceptable for people to have to wait for years, come on its 2010, everythings is being done through internet, it takes minutes for a back ground check. ect ect ect

It's difficult for everyone involved, either inland or outland. I would give my eye-teeth to have my husband here with me now, and not 10,000 kms. away, working or not working.

Mrs B;

I certainly understand your frustrations. In my opinion, it should be that way to discourage people from coming to Canada, marrying, and staying here. Not allowing people to work will discourage them from going the inland route.

We discussed what we would do if my fiance was granted a TRV, since processing in Accra will be about 18 months. I told him if he could get into Canada, we should have him stay and apply inland so we could be together. He said no way, he wants to do things the proper route, and does not like the idea of not being able to work, and not being able to appeal if the decision didn't go our way.

So I'm in Alberta, and he's in Nigeria, and we are crossing our fingers that he might be here by Christmas 2011. In the meantime, I will settle for seeing him twice a year, knowing that eventually he will land here and we can be together as a family.

I'm sure the finances are stressful for you, and it's never optimal for a husband not to be working. I just urge you to be patient, and really enjoy each other. Do not let the stress of the procedure or finances drive you apart. Remember the hundreds and thousands of people across Canada who would love to kiss their husband or wife each night as they go to bed. :-*

So why don't they come here (Canada) as a visitor?
They can stay six months, and assuming you are married most likely get an extension.

This is what I am doing, my disappointment like others is not only can I not work. But it is illegal!
The way it is going I could be here for well over year before I can legally work. However as a US citizen I'm hoping to get a job through NAFTA. (fingers crossed)

If they're lucky enough to be from a visa-exempt country, sure, they can visit. My husband is not, and has had a visitor's visa to Canada and a TRANSIT visa through the UK already refused. The chances of him being able to 'visit' Canada are slim-to-none at best.

Hey people,
in my mind it is equally frustrating both ways. For those who applied outland it is obvious - not being with your loved ones. And for us who applied inland it is putting your life on hold and the uncertainty (after all we cannot appeal, which is stupid). I am super happy that I am here with my guy and on top of that I have a study permit so I can study and a work permit, so I can work. But it all ends come August and I am freaked out that my PR can take longer than that to be completed.
Cheers and let the immigration gods be with us =)), Raccoon.

For inland application, it takes longer for the application to be processed but you get to spend your waiting time with your family.

For outland application, the application is done faster but you have to endure time away from your family.

I guess we can't really have it all. But for me, I'd rather be waiting for my application with my family. You are not allowed to find work in Canada during the application time, but they did not say that you can't find work at home. Try looking for online jobs in the internet. This way you can work at home while waiting for your application.
