I got a letter of invitation to the oath ceremony at Scarborough Center. It says bring 'all passport and travel documents, in your possession(current and expire)'. Not quite understand the reasons under this requirement.

Did you not show them at the time of your test?

They checked the stamps one by one. Are they going to do it again during the ceremony? The letter looks standard.

I have never heard of somethnig like this before ... They should only ask for your PR card.

The notice for the oath typically states that the applicant must bring the supporting documents much the same as to the test and interview.

In practice, however, it appears that oath officials only check and collect the PR card . . . that is how it went at my oath ceremony as well.

I brought the documents as instructed, and had a couple of them in hand, and the official (same woman as who interviewed me two days earlier at test event) said "all I need is your PR card." Same for those in line in front of me, and following me.

And the reports in forums are generally consistent with that as well.

Nonetheless I would bring all documents instructed but not be concerned about any further review let alone assessment of them.

Note, however, it is not over until the oath has been taken. Probably better to not take much for granted.

Mostly, however, show up, deliver the PR card, take the oath, enjoy the day.

Did you have any chance to keep the PR CARD, or just hand in the expired one?

During oath ceremony CIC people will keep the PR card regardless its expired or not.

Really?? I was under the impression that you must surrender your PR card at oath ceremony due to the fact you are no longer PR. Also that PR cards are properties of CiC thus have a right to ask for them back if they chose to keep it.

That's exactly what he said. CIC PEOPLE will keep it. CIC PEOPLE = CIC.

Whoops. A brain fart. I completely missed the "CiC" part in the post. Sorry. My bad.

As others already noted: CIC requires applicants to surrender their PR card.

I had forgotten, but yes, indeed, I had allowed my PR card to expire so it was an expired PR card I personally surrendered.

Failure to present and surrender the PR card will at the least delay taking the oath.

Obviously there are occasions when applicants have lost their PR card . . . not good, something the PR should address sooner rather than later, and for sure not wait until the day of the oath ceremony. While there will be an opportunity to submit a signed statement explaining the loss of the PR card, I do not think there is such an opportunity (at least not usually) the day of the oath ceremony. Best practice: protect your PR card and bring it to the test, interview, and oath, even if expired.
