So...

My husband was approved to sponsor me back in November. My Application has said "Application Received" since then.. No movement. When do they normally start ACTUALLY processing the application? Mine is in Ottawa and the current wait is 15 months... is that for them to start looking at it or for it to be done? The website claims - in a roundabout way - that that is the total time.... uhhhuh...

Can't take this much longer.. why is it that I have to wait for more than a year to be with my spouse.. there's no way anything ever needs to take that long..

The timeline for Ottawa is taking 8-10 months by their spreadsheet.

Please check out the Ottawa thread here; http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/cppottawa-t118769.6630.html

You will see that applications from August and September are currently being approved. There are spreadsheets, as well, but alas I don't have them bookmarked on this PC. You will find them in the Ottawa thread. If you got SA in November I'm going to assume you are also a September applicant like myself. Should be getting DM in the next month or so.

Ottawa is not taking 15 mos, earlier in the year it was 4-6, it has slowed down to 8-10.

PS a lot of us Outland American Applicants came up to Canada and spent the time waiting for our app to be processed with our Spouse!:) You're almost done now, but you could most certainly wait out the process on a visitor visa with your partner! FYI They regularly grant visitor visa extensions for those waiting on PR applications.

First of all, most people have to wait longer than you, so appreciate the speed of your process instead of complaining. Second, the posted Stage 2 times are for 80% of applications are completed within that timeframe at that office. Third, the total time is Stage 1 + Stage 2 (2-3 months + 8-36 months). Fourth, the length of time for Canadian immigration is due to the very lax rules around immigrating here. If we were to restrict immigration like the US or the EU, then the processing backlog would drop. To put it in perspective, 22% of current Canadian citizens immigrated to Canada and 17.4% are the children of immigrants.

Mapleson,

That's pretty rude and judgmental for you to say. I think most people would appreciate a faster process, I'm not alone in being annoyed that I have to wait to be with my spouse. I'm also fully aware of the tables, steps, etc. I was simply asking if anyone had any experience with how long it took for their application to go from "Application Received" to "in process" or "DM"

Thanks for the positivity.

Ok, well those tables list that exact information for every Ottawa application for the last 2 years.

Are you working in CIC ? Why are you always defending them ? Do you believe your application will go thru fast ?
You will know the pain when you are apart from your family for more than a year. Looks like you just applied you must be having full energy now.
Lets see if you are having the same enthusiasm after a year or 2 of waiting.
if you cant say something without being rude, then don't say it.

The first response you got gave you pretty accurate information. The spreadsheets can confirm that.

Some people never see "In process" on ECAS. I never saw it. It went straight to DM. I believe August and September applicants from the Ottawa VO are starting to see some progress, so if you applied in October (my guess, based on your note that you received stage 1 approval in November), then you should expect something in June or July. I don't work for CIC, but that's my estimate. Good luck.

Hi Bethany,

Stay positive ! Have a deaf ear to stupid responses. I wish you a speedy process. Ottawa is one of the fastest VO. If you want to know if any comments have been made in your application or if it is stuck, you can order GCMS notes.

I don't think anyone on this forum works for CIC. I believe there is a lot of frustration on this forum, because the same questions are answered every day. One of those questions is "When will I get an answer?!" No one knows. It's also routine to have people who applied 3 months post angry tirades about the speed of processing, and how the wait is tearing their marriage apart. No one is forcing you to be apart. You can visit your spouse, or even go live with them if you are a Canadian citizen.

Some of my colleagues asked me about the process to sponsor your spouse to Canada, and they were shocked at how much more relaxed the rules were compared to their home countries. A lot of them have minimum income requirements, or force the spouses to live in different countries, or require stressful interviews for every applicant. The Canadian system is not perfect, but it's much more lenient than others. Unfortunately, one of the trade offs is that some countries and VOs have slower processing times. There are a host of reasons for that, some of which are not related to CIC or Canada at all (information sharing, record keeping in some areas, and political relations).

If you are concerned that nothing is being done on your file, then order your GCMS notes. They can tell you if there are any outstanding documents or issues that need to be addressed.

What part was rude or judgmental? That I have to wait longer than you to be with my spouse and she can't get a TRV because she's not from a visa-exempt country (we tried and were denied)? I was trying to show you the positivity that as bad as you may feel your situation is most people have it worse.

If you had just asked the time from AOR to DM, then I'd have answered as everyone else. However, you complained "why is it that I have to wait for more than a year to be with my spouse.. there's no way anything ever needs to take that long."

No, I'm a Civil Engineer. I try to explain the reality of the situation to those that want to complain (in this case an American complaining about wait times less than NDVO). There are two ways to look at things: complain about how bad they are or look for how they are actually good.

If you don't want to spend a this length of time apart, you are welcome to try a different country. It's tough for all of us, but what does complaining achieve if it's not connected to the whole story?

I agree with what you are saying. But some people responding here believe they have to tear someone down and feel good about themselves.
Each person is different and they have different way of posting and asking questions. There is no set rule that this is how you have to post in a forum. Its not possible to always be objective and not show any emotional behavior.

It is ok to post "why is it that I have to wait for more than a year to be with my spouse.. there's no way anything ever needs to take that long."
There is no rule that we cannot complain here.

You have a good outlook and attitude towards handling challenges. Good for you. Don't shove it on others is what I am saying.
I believe you are answering questions and providing facts to help people. But you are also expecting perfectly worded questions.
You don't have to address ever aspect of a person's post. Some are sensitive to replies. We have to live in a way to accommodate people and NOT exclude and destroy them.
