Why don't you disappear from it first! :)

To all other forum members: do feel free to express your opinion!

Some of you may not even have asked yourselves WHY AM I taking this or the other ACTION in my life, with such far and long reaching and lasting consequences.

Be CONSCIOUS of yourselves.

In the meantime, help to bring down stereotypes , and pigeonholes you will be fit into unless you make it loud and clear WHY you made a decision to migrate, WHY you decided to head off thousands of miles away from the roots, the land of generations of your ancestors..

When PILGRIMS on Mayflower came to America they KNEW WHY they took such a risky and perilous journey.
And their works turned out to be MONUMENTAL - Look no further than the United States of America. Look at what Passion coupled with Intelligence can accomplish in mere 200 years!
Their descendants are proud of them today, and will be for long time to come.

Will ours' feel the same about us? Will we earn the same respect ? Do we have a vision for Monumental works , for Posterity, for generations to come, will we help to build New Countries with New Heights and Unprecedented Limits like they did?

Or will we be regarded as mere vagabonds, opportunists and pillagers who came to ruin the best that was built before us?

Answering those questions and setting clear goals can make a difference.

I don't know why posters who so far responded to this thread tend to have negative assumptions about the intention of this thread (with the exception of 9j who at least gave a benefit of doubt), but I would very much appreciate if some of you visiting this forum gave a deep thought and were kind enough to share some of them under this thread.

Lighten up people!! Does it matter who tells their story first?

I'm moving back to Canada because I want my boys to experience the great childhood that I had growing up there. I have been lucky enough to find a wonderful man who is willing to leave his friends & family to fulfill my dreams for our family.
We are leaving the UK because I am fed up with constant price increases, no salary increases and the taxes that will soon mean that I am unable to stay at home to raise my babies and will have to find a job that takes me away from looking after my family. I had kids to raise them and enjoy them, not to miss out on all the joy and only get quality time with them at weekends.

Who's next......

Alas, judging from the number of positive responses, there is no sense of urgency, no sense of necessity , not even any sense of understanding how important it is as an individual and as a group to be CONSCIOUS of real CAUSES and MOTIVATIONS beyond ACTIONS we take, such as applying to immigrate to Canada.

For those of you not familiar with Western idea of Statehood , Nation and Community, it seems as frivolous waste of time to ask yourselves such "impractical" questions as: why, for what purpose and what forces you to move to another country?

You take it for granted that Canada is the country that welcomes diversity and you assume you are entitled to good treatment just because it's Canada.

You are not going to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Russia, Syria or Egypt.
You are going to C-A-N-A-D-A ! Entirely different land, with different culture, system of values, beliefs, relationships and so on.

If you take the welcome you get for granted and don't think through and don't answer , at least in your heart and soul to yourselves, to those questions asked in OP....well, in such event don't be surprised if at some point you wear out the welcome of the host nation and the local people start to get uneasy and impatient with growing tides of us, immigrants, coming to Canada without clear purpose, desire to become part of and contribute to well-being of receiving nation.

Then, when tables turn and you sense the growing impatience of natives with newcomers, don't blame anyone but yourselves.

You still can,(each and every one of you actually has an obligation, to yourselves and your fellow immigrants), do all you can to not let things go in wrong direction as it happened in too many countries all over the world to mention. Few years down the road you may not have such luxury...

Am i being a bit too much of an idealist? Am i expecting too much of this modern generation of immigrants? Aren't we worthy of those who preceded us?

No one has the right to judge anything that people have written? If I decide to move to Canada because I prefer driving on the right-hand side of the road (just a flippant example, I couldn't care less where I drive!) then that is a valid reason, maybe not in your opinion, but to me it might mean everything.

I take nothing for granted and value everyday.

I do expect good and fair treatment wherever I live because I am a good and fair person. I 'live and let live', do not judge anyone and do what I can to help others to enjoy their lives too, and I expect the same treatment from others. I will make my life what I want it to be, if Canada doesn't provide all I hope for my family (which it will!) then I will continue my search elsewhere.

Why does everything fall back to politics? This was a simple thread that didn't include anything offensive, it could just be a nice way of finding out about people who are going through the same process in search of a better life, regardless of their reasons for doing it.

I don't believe anyone who applied for immigration doesn't have compelling reasons. I want to go to Canada because it offers better quality of life. Opportunism? Only the foolish let an opportunity go abegging. I do not want my children to live in a country with a corrupt system, little value for human life, lawlessness, lack of equal opportunities and majority of its people lacking civic sense.
Would an immigrant get good treatment in Canada? I think, others' behavior is reflection of one's own behavior. If you behave in dignified way you would get respect. Everything has to be earned. Immigrants are contributing to the economy of Canada in a big way. If natives resent them just because they provide them with competition, they have to come out of their stupor. World is increasingly becoming well-knit and national boundaries would become indistinguishable. Being born in a particular country would not be a guarantee for a good life.

I just have to laugh at this. Isn't it amazing how on the evidence of just 3 posts you are able to arrive at such conclusion as to assert such very judgmental stance. This post has just confirmed my initial charge at your motive. Here I quote again what I wrote earlier:

Thanks for this, but it would have required you fewer lines to tell us what your stance on the issue is.

It might not appear as such to you, but some might see it as hypocritical when you state that your motive is to "destroy" stereotypes and there you are holding back on your own perspectives on the issue you seek to explore. The best way to generate discussion is to state your own premise. I am sorry, it might not be your intention, but your current stance would suggest you are driving at a predetermined premise and are looking for contributions to reinforce your premise. I hope I am wrong, but the best way to prove me or everyone that have asked for your own opinion wrong is to state here what your own stance on the issue is. Then the discussions would follow.

There may be some value in the message you may be trying to pass across, but IMHO, jumping on such a high horse and taking such a very prejudicial position is not the way to pass the message across. It would appear that you were so driven in your convictions about people's motive you couldn't even wait to get enough responses to support your stance. My dear Canada0801, for someone whose supposed aim of starting this is "to destroy stereotype", you've got a lot of work to do. A self introspection might not be a bad way to start.

I am done here. have a nice day y'all and all the best in our journey.

The big issue is that people immigrate for personal reasons, nothing more.
Clearly you are over thinking the issue.
Urgency and necessity are not supported by the immigration process, no matter how urgent an applicants requirement actually is, the system rarely accommodates that need.

When PILGRIMS on Mayflower came to America they KNEW WHY they took such a risky and perilous journey.
And their works turned out to be MONUMENTAL - Look no further than the United States of America. Look at what Passion coupled with Intelligence can accomplish in mere 200 years!
America is very quickly descending into a nation of citizens who are under suspicion and have their rights abused. Many people believe that the government in the US is no longer "for the people".
The pilgrims would be disgusted with what is happening in the USA. Sure it is monumental, but quite contrary to the way you mean it.

The key in Canada is integration, don't expect Canada or Canadians to "accept without question" immigrants who want to transplant their old life.
Canadians are already increasingly bothered by the scale, the type and the abuse of immigration.
Integrate don't separate.

Name your stereotypes, let's address every one of them :)
