No one has the right to judge anything that people have written?
I didn't say anything about the RIGHT to judge or not to judge.
I personally consider myself a critically thinking person and do make judgments all the time (for example, i read a book and make a judgment whether it was worthy of time and effort spent reading it or whether it was a complete rubbish and waste of time and etc.)
While I don't know if judgment is the right, privilege or what not, one thing I am sure of is that it is necessary component of critical perception.
If I decide to move to Canada because I prefer driving on the right-hand side of the road (just a flippant example, I couldn't care less where I drive!) then that is a valid reason, maybe not in your opinion, but to me it might mean everything.
I didn't opine that your individual reason is not valid. Actually, i found it encouraging that you did take a time to think and answer questions asked in OP.
But not all people who immigrate to Canada know CONSCIOUSLY: WHY ARE THEY MOVING TO CANADA?
I wouldn't bother to ask anyone , HOWEVER, those who move to a new country and take everything for granted and then appear to be disruptive and unproductive members of society - such immigrants make a BAD name for the rest and give just grounds to Nativists to run campaigns against the rest of us.
The end result of such campaigns is always negative and never constructive.
We can all blame those on far right fringes of being aggressive and intolerant against us ( and many of them ARE sick individuals ), but we should also blame OURSELVES for not taking responsibility to be CREATIVE, ENTREPRENEURIAL, PRODUCTIVE and ADVANCING members of society we arrive into.
Canada today is still very friendly to immigrants at large , however, without immigrants' realizing how THEY ARE responsible for making their best to maintain this good will of majority of people, it will not last too long.
I am not interested in making people feel good if outcome is not the same.
I would rather say this and make a lot of people here pissed off and not pleased, yet , hopefully, more and more of you would start to think and spread the word and understand WHAT responsibility you bear on your shoulders as IMMIGRANTS to a NEW LAND.
I do expect good and fair treatment wherever I live because I am a good and fair person.
So do i. But it is imperative for each one to remember that we must be FAIR in the first place before we can expect or demand the same from anyone else.
I 'live and let live', do not judge anyone and do what I can to help others to enjoy their lives too, and I expect the same treatment from others. I will make my life what I want it to be, if Canada doesn't provide all I hope for my family (which it will!) then I will continue my search elsewhere.
Great. I share exact same sentiments.
Why does everything fall back to politics?
Global migration and immigration policies are inseparable parts of politics (note parties involved: local voters who vote and empower politicians , legislative as well as executive; and politicians themselves who enact the will of people once in power. The immigration policy and perception of immigrants will , for as long as we can foresee, be part of political process. No way around it, so better get used to it).
This was a simple thread that didn't include anything offensive,
That's right, OP consisted of couple of questions. Why those who chose to reply resorted to be offensive while avoiding to answer those simple questions is something we could all ponder on.
it could just be a nice way of finding out about people who are going through the same process in search of a better life, regardless of their reasons for doing it.
Life is not all nice as seen through pink glasses. Inevitable part of life is constant struggle: for happiness, for achievement, for greater good and etc. Nothing good comes without struggle.
I posted questions in order to ask everyone of you: what good are you doing to make your journey as worthy of posterity as those of earlier settlers who laid foundations for monumental work across the Atlantic? Or are you one of those who help to create negative image of newcomers and immigrants?
