I am living in the US and use Chase for all my banking needs.

Is Chase a big bank with convenient ATM Locations? I plan to settle in Calgary Alberta.

I researched Scotia Bank and it surprises me with monthly fee and transaction limits, i am spoiled with free checking here in Texas. :p

any advise ? Appreciate it!

1. Well Chase Bank is not in Canada. Check out the Credit Unions or RBC new comers account. Or you can deal with an on line bank ING etc.

If you make less than 25 transactions a month(cheques included), then an account with limits is like 2nd nature with the added benefit of no monthly fees. Something you should know about banks, not every client pays those ridiculous fees but you have to ask.

When you keep certain amount (combined in all accounts with the bank) there won't be any fee. I never paid a fee.

Sometimes if you get a package from a bank you're waived the fees. For example, savings, visa card and RRSP combined in one bank.

If all you want is a basic chequing account and you're not worried about accruing interest....Presidents Choice at Superstore offers free accounts, free cheques, free transactions etc. No fees, no minimum balances required. Their associate bank is CIBC.
If you want a credit card as well, you might find options there, or else try other banks like TD Canada Trust, Scotia Bank, Royal Bank, Bank of Montreal....

Not sure which major US and CDN banks are affiliated with each other.

Before moving back to Canada, I plan on leaving some $$$ in my BOA acct as I know that ATM withdrawals from it are free at Scotiabank.

I was using Chase bank in the US and now I am using TD is Canada purely because of excellent customer service and convenient locations of ATMs. Its 10 CAD a month but since they waived by annual credit card fee.. it should all even out.

I use TD and found them ok (extended opening hours are the best part) but friends have banked with RBC and found them great
