- LANDED..........
- September 20, 2012, PR card received Nov 23,2012
Hello guys, I have a rather confusing question or questions.
Here's the situation:
My family (me,mom, dad and brother) landed in 2011 as PR. My brother went back home shortly after that and just came back in 2013 and will stay for good (so basically he will still meet his 2 year residency requirement by 2016).
We all got our PR cards in 2011 except my brother's , there was an issue with his photo or something and he wasn't able to resolve it until he got back a few months ago when he applied for a replacement PR card instead. He finally received his card today and we noticed that his PR card expiration is 2018. (5 years from 2013, the issue date) .
So the questions are:
1. When shall he renew his Permanent Residency? Is it 2016 like me, my mom and dad, since we landed in 2011? Or in 2018 since that is the expiration of his PR card?
2 If he shall renew in 2018, does that mean that the 2 year residency obligation will be considered from 2013 to 2018? Meaning, hypothetically, even if he goes home again and comes back in 2016, he will be able to renew his residency ?
3. Or if he shall renew in 2016 like us, shall be he issued a new card even if his has not expired yet?
Sorry for the messed up situation, my brother and i are arguing over this and I just want to see what you guys think.
Thank you!
