when i can apply my citizenship if old rules come back ( 3 yr out of 5 yr )

i am in Canada Dec 2013 as working visa

i got PR Dec 2015

So my when I would be eligible for citizenship if OLD rule come back

my understanding is 2017 dec

The old rules aren't coming back. There will be a set of new rules that will change some aspects of the current rules. Call them the new new rules if you like. In terms of when you can apply, that depends on when the new new rules some into effect, how long you have been outside of Canada, etc.

This is correct if you never left Canada since 2014 dec

Please note that even if the new rules account for time spent in Canada before PR, they will probably not count 100% - i.e. only at 50%.

Also the new rules are likely to face opposition from the conservatives and may be bounced around quite a few times before finally being passed. The process may take many more months yet, possibly years.

Oops, right. But the OP is still fine since he never left since he landed in Dec 2013.

The liberals have a majority so I have no doubt it will get passed. But yes, it may take awhile. But I'm going to guess that by Dec 2017, it will be in effect

I really wish they restore the previous rules. However with so many hatred around, it could be a compromised deal with few things in it.

However, unless it become a rule and clearly posted on CIC rules with effective date, you got to wait patiently.

The OP wouldn't be able to apply until Dec 2017 anyway (under the proposed new rules) at earliest. I expect by that time the bill will be pushed through

It is clearly said
Any temporary residence will be counted

Your answer is so confusing

A few weeks ago this guy was assuring everyone that there will be no changes to Citizenship act, so you should take his prognosis with a grain of salt.

Is there any chance old rule would be back by end of 2016

You can try using this calculator:

It takes forever for the government to move things along. Not only does the bill need to receive royal assent, but once passed, CIC needs to then update the procedure. Knowing how slow CIC can move, it is wishful thinking that changes would be implemented quickly. End of 2016 may be a bit optimistic. But end of 2017 sounds reasonable.

Liberals are very serious to implement C-6 ASAP I think this will happen in 2016.

CIC have two faces one for us and second for minister believe me they can update every document in days good example is Syrian refugee cases, we all knows CIC has cleared their files in days or weeks it means they are capable to take the challenges.
