Hi

I have a question regarding when PR card has to be entered into canada. Once the residence card is recieved, how long until the holder has to come to Canada to get registered? My wife's son might come 6 months after her and want to make sure that plan is ok.

I believe you mean COPR rather than PR card. The COPR is valid for 12 months after the date of the medical. It has an expiry date on it. The son has to enter before that date.

If the medical is done 8 months before the COPR is recieved, then he only has 4 months to land? We did his medical in august 2013 and not expecting COPR until June 2013?

Correct! Our COPR expired one year from the date of the medical.

Do you get another one if the process takes more than 1 year from medicals or do they require a new medical?

1. If only the medical is the outstanding issue before issuing the COPR, then the VO can request an extension of the medical.
2. If there other outstanding requirements, then a new medical.

Yes. If his COPR comes in June 2014 and he did medical in Aug 2013, then he will have only around 2 months to land before it expires. Some people on this forum have stated they've received COPRs with just days or weeks as a due date to land. So need to be prepared to do the landing process in Canada fairly quickly.

My wife did her medicals in March of 2013 so it will be over 1 year before her PR is approved. I assume then either they will extend her medical or request a new one before issuing the COPR?
