This question might be a bit confusing but I thought I'd try. I am just curious as to when UCI's are assigned to individuals. I am sponsoring my husband, and I received my UCI number when I got my AOR from Mississauga. At that point, would my husband have received a UCI as well, and just not been given to us? Or will he receive a UCI when his application is forwarded and begun processing at the VO? I understand that a UCI for the applicant is not needed to log into ECAS, I'm just curious :)

Thanks!

I never got mine (my wife got hers) so I called the call center and they set one up for me over the phone.

Ah, I was just curious as I got an email in response to an inquiry and they send me a UCI for my husband. I was hoping that meant they started process his app ;)

You get assigned a UCI the first time that you darken CIC's door.

Haha, so ominous. So we probably got them at the same time when the app was first submitted. Ah well, one can hope they're already processing it.

Both you as a sponsor and the applicant receive a UCI number. Most of the time you don't know the applicants UCI number unless you have emailed the VO office requesting it or you've emailed to ask a question and they reply back.

oh I didn't know this I though only a sponsor will have a UCI number :o

I didn't know either until I questioned why there was 2 UCI numbers on an email back from the VO office. I thought they were sending me someone else's UCI number

FYI. You can also use the applicants UCI number to sign into Ecas.

Not only can you, but it gives you different/more information. You need both UCI numbers and you need regularly login with both of them.

Ohh does it really! If my husband uses his UCI number instead of the file number, different information shows up?

we only have one UCI number ( sponsor UCI # number ) how I can request for applicant UCI number ? please ;D and yeah does it have different information that shows up on ecas ? :D ;D ?

;D

I've checked using the UCI and file number and it shows exactly the same information in both scenarios. So I doubt it matters which one you use (unless someone who has recently landed can confirm otherwise)... afterall, the file number will not change.

Ecas is really just for updates, so you will see new information when a step in the process is in progress or completed, assuming they even keep it up to date. So the best option is to request GCMS notes for detailed notes.

For those wanting a UCI for their sponsored spouse, you can contact the call centre. Otherwise, one will be issued when you receive the first correspondence from the visa office overseas.

If you login as the applicant you can not see the DM on the sponsors side, for example. The applicant cant see anything about the sponsor. (at least thats how it is for mine, maybe mine is screwed up)

Ah, no that's how mine is as well. I was thinking using the applicant UCI showed extra information for them as well.
