Your comment below seemed to be saying with the applicant's UCI, you get more/different info. So my point was you see the exact same info about the applicant (i.e. 1). "application received on xyz" 2). "Medicals have been received") using the applicant's UCI, name & birth date as when you use the file number + applicant's name & birth date. So the applicant doesn't need their UCI to check ecas because the file number works too.

Not only can you, but it gives you different/more information. You need both UCI numbers and you need regularly login with both of them.]

If you login as the applicant you can not see the DM on the sponsors side, for example. The applicant cant see anything about the sponsor. (at least thats how it is for mine, maybe mine is screwed up)

The file number doesn't work on ecas. Or at least it has never worked any of the times i've tried it. Only UCI numbers work for me.

Lets keep things simple, if possible. Both applicant and sponsor need UCI numbers. If they dont, something is messed up somewhere and they should be calling CIC helpline to sort it out. Advising people to go thru the sponsorship process without an applicants UCI is shitty adive. Period.

The file number works for me, but only with the applicants info.

I heard from other posts that often the applicant's UCI is only one number off of the sponsor's. So today I decided to try it with ECAS. Sure enough, my husband's UCI (which has not been given to us by anyone at this point) is only one number off of mine - my UCI ends in a 1 and his ends in a 0.

That's very odd. My husbands is very, very different than mine. That might be because he tried applying for a work visa a long time ago though. He wasn't able to get one but maybe they assigned him a UCI anyway.

Once a UCI has been provided, that person keeps the same number for all future dealings with CIC. Your husband's UCI was likely assigned at the beginning of his work visa application process.

:P hi Step I tried the file number and it works for me but same things :P

happy st patricks day to all hugs

Passport Request.
Just to give you some idea, May and June Applicants receiving now.
Watch the threads for the months preceding yours at Manila. Should be able to roughly tell by them.

Exactly! Use the file number until the overseas office issues the UCI number.

Happy St. Pats to you too!

Correct. The first time you apply for any immigration services, CIC assigns a UCI even if you are rejected.
