State police checks aren't a default requirement. Sometimes the CIC asks for them later - most of the time they don't. Long story short, it's enough to send the FBI cert.

oh thank god, I thought I need that too.

I've lived in North Carolina since I was 3. So I don't think they would need one.

ok, in our case, though everything is ok, relationship is genuine, we submitted tons of proofs.. same religion, same caste n everything.. family friends every1 knw abt our marriage etc.. In fact our parents arranged our marriage.. Still we got red flags cos of 2 reasons n they suspected our marriage.

1) My husband is a PR, and he submitted my appln when he was in India on vacation. This kept our file under review, and they were almost gonna reject it. Before that, we ourselves withdrew that file and submitted the 2nd one. We ofcourse mentioned abt this 1st appln which we withdrew in the 2nd one.

2) We r using a lawyer from montreal, when my husband is in Toronto.. Am still not sure why this would be an issue?

Funniest part is that, New Delhi office did not ask us any clarification or interview.. They took their own sweet time to find out by themselves and nw they r convinced it seems. I really dono what they did to confirm that no mistake on our side n our marriage is indeed genuine.. We gotta knw this status thru MP last week.

I would really appreciate any help or advise I could get.I would be applying for PR under common law with my boyfriend. At the moment I am on a student visa. I have a grave problem at the moment and it is really freaking out. I have been separated from my marriage since 2009 and not getting a co-operative divorce- turned nasty with my ex. In my application for a student visa in year 2010, I put married in the application form because at that time it was barely a year separated from him and I thought it makes sense to fill it that way. And with me being here in Canada for over a year, would that account for separation from marriage at least a year? My relationship started with my boyfriend just after I left my marriage and we have emails, chats log, letters from friends and family(about 10 letters including 1 from his friend who works in a law firm), pictures of our travels to various countries together, plane ticket purchased together, his travelling to my country to visit me and me travelling to Canada to visit him in 2009, his will and life insurance in my name, condo lease in both our name. We plan to make an outland application. Would appreciate any advise, suggestions or hints on what else to submit together with our applications to support that ours is a genuine application. thank you

My husband's parents weren't on our wedding because they were both working abroad (his parents are separated). His relatives did not come as well despite the fact that we invited them. Would this set off a red flag? I did not include in the application the reason why his relatives didn't come and simply stated that his parents couldn't come because they were working abroad.

The fact that you gave a reason why the parents were not there is good.

When writing and describing things to CIC, try to answer any questions that may arise, if not then the VO may wonder what is happening or need to request an interview.

I'm guessing that I'd be called for an interview. I'm dreading this not for any other reason but for only one thing: I don't do well under pressure. I don't want to come across as nervous because I'm hiding anything, any advice?

They have seen nervous before, it does not mean that your relationship is not genuine.

There a many potential red flags,in our case the biggest one is that both of us have previous marriages. Who knows maybe it will be seen as something more in common...LOL ! We sometimes find ourselves worrying about the other differences between us,but try to use that energy and focus on us being together. I know we can't be the only ones who have had previous marriages and going through this process. Maybe others can share their thoughts and experiences with CIC and how it is, or was viewed?

Hi....mr70, it's just the same here. My bf and I both have previous marriages and I've been worried if it will become a problem, although I don't really think it will be but who knows? ::) We apply PR under common-law and I guess CIC officer might wonder that why we didn't get married and not showing them any future plan about marriage. What if they interviewed me, should I tell the truth that we never think about marriage because we don't really think it's necessary to us, well, at least, for this two, three years. Will it become an excuse to CIC to refuse my application? I really don't know. I'm waiting for anything from CIC...I'll be more than happy when you get some news from CIC and please share with me.....
