Sir
Thats what I am waiting for too.....People can share their first hand experiences here to benefit the new comers. A lot of new PR holders will be entering Canada in coming months. I will help them to make shopping list and discard things which can not be taken there.

Hi accounts,

Welcome to Canada. You are going to land in good weather.
To your querry:

First of all keep in mind every passenger can take 2 suitcases 23 kg each = 46 kg + hand bag 7 - 10 kg according to the airline you travel.

Give priority to clothings, towels, bedsheets, shoes etc.

don't leave any camera, camcoder or mobiles in use and in good condition.

Choose some kitchen utensils, ( like nonstick fry pans, sauce pans, tawa, dinner plates, cups etc...etc.. as required )

don't bring any electric items like blender, mixer, hair dryer etc if they are not with dual voltage. 110-220 0r 240
I heard Preeti Mixer with 110-120 volt is available in India ( made for export ). If you can get one buy it.

Then according to your allowed weight limit bring some selected spices, dal, masala, pickles or whatever you like in sealed packets.

If you feel they are heavy you can arrange to send it by cargo shipment. ( Prepare Form B4 )

Don't bring any un packed raw and fresh items, which are not allowed.

Whle landing, if customs ask tell you have only "processed food stuff " if you carry anything like that.

So, go ahead, plan about bringing anything useful at home except electric and electronic items, within the capacity of your allowed baggage limit on the flight. If you send such items by cargo you have to consider the cost of freight, handling etc. But for immediate use, you should bring essentials like what I briefed.

Regards,

No need to bring =

no need to bring foods, spices, etc as those are available here.
Electricity here is 110V, not 220 as per Pakistan. So keep that in mind and no need to carry electrical appliances.
No need for bringing furniture.

Make sure for mobile phones, it should be operating at high frequency otherwise it will not work in Canada.
Here the frequency used is very high (1900) so check your phone for that.

Laptops/smartphones should be able to work without issues.

Bring:

Cotton bedsheets, cooking pots of mixed silver/steel good for cooking rice, etc. Very big pots are useless as stove cannot heat those.
Bring clothes for ladies/females, as variety here is very little and they're expensive. Bring shalwar qameez, suits, etc from Pakistan as those are costly here. You can have better ones in Pak for better prices and quality/variety/colour, etc.

Proper good cotton bedhseets with designs are not available here. So bring those. Here it's "feels like cotton" available and no varieties.
Clothes for children also can be bought here but bring some from Pak.

As for shoes, here only in summer you can wear open type shoes, sandals, so bring those.
Winter shoes, etc should be bought here as they're better suited for Canadian cold/winter/snow weather. Bring light jackets from Pak
as the ones here are not so good in look/variety. I am always disappointed at the crap quality and no variety in canadian stores.

If you want, you can bring herbal medicine, homeopathic medicine etc for your own use. Medicine is expensive here in Canada
even if you don't pay for doctor fees (covered by provincial health coverage)...

Here is another important one, which i forgot earlier......

This is what a typical stove looks like, in Canadian apartments.
It is electric.

http://www.sears.ca/product/ge-24-freestanding-range-white-jcas730mww/622-000013474-JCAS730MWW?gclid=COaLw8OE9b0CFY0-Mgod3zcARw&ef_id=U1bKyQAABTUCN1tl:20140422212728:s

Whatever pans you bring, make sure their bottom is FLAT.......that includes TAWA, Karahi, Handi, etc.......must be "FLAT"

Ofcourse if you buy a house which has gas stove, then this issue is non-existant.....but for apartment living this is what you will deal with in cooking department
