What this means in instruction guide

'Please note that although certificates from these government funded language training programs can be used as acceptable language proof, they cannot be used as proof of education for your citizenship application ' ;)

It means that you cannot claim to hold a degree (e.g. Bachelor's or professional) by merely showing that you have a training certificate. For example, if I go on a 6-week training for some public speaking certificate, I cannot use that certificate to claim that I have an education degree in public speaking. Makes sense?

Hi,
The empirical-scientist's reply doesn't make a lot of sense. How can someone claim to have a degree while actually have completed just a course? It would be a misrepresentation, right?
I guess your quote means that you can't mention gov't.-funded course under work/education history part of your application-- any other education can be mentioned there.

Just my 2 cents.

This means there are private language tests you can write such as IELTS. Also, each provincial government has non profit agencies that help the new comers. These agencies have language classes. There are certain levels you have to attend and graduate. Once you finish the highest eligible level, you do not have to write the private language test.

I am sorry but I didnt understand.

Then why its mentioned-

'You must list all your work and education history including English/French language training for the past four (4) years and must account for each month.'

it means that they are acceptable when it comes to proof of language but you cannot use them under the section that requires you to provide proof of education (i.e degrees, transcripts etc.)

Hi Zoya_99,
I think if you're more specific about your situation it would help. At any rate, question "6F: work/ edu. history" and "7:language proof" on the Citizenship Application are entirely different things. For instance, IELTS test result can be used as proof of language but not as an education, which is very obvious. Same for LINC/CLIC courses if that's what you're asking.
The reason why language training option is still mentioned as an option in section 6F. is that unlike LINC, NOT all language trainings are government-funded, in which case you definitely can mention it as proof of education.

Makes sense?

But I have seen many people on this forum who mentioned ESL on work/education history and their application got accepted.

Well, I guess ESL is not the same thing as LINC, but then ESL couldn't be used as a proof of language.

I think ESL is for educational purposes, maybe thats why people have mentioned it for their education history. I think ESL and LINC are your Academic version and General version of your IELTS test, and that's why serve different purposes.

I would like to clarify it for everyone:

This is what the application guide says:

If you do not have acceptable language proof to submit with your application or do not have the required language level, you may choose to enroll in a government-funded language program that would help you increase your language proficiency, and succeed in obtaining certification at a level of CLB/NCLC 4. Please note that although certificates from these government funded language training programs can be used as acceptable language proof, they cannot be used as proof of education for your citizenship application (see Section 4 Education Records)

It means that if you go through government funded language program and succeed in obtaining certification at a level of CLB/NCLC 4 then that certification can only be used as a language proof. You can definitely attach the copy of the certificate as a language proof in SECTION 7: Evidence of achieving CLB/NCLC 4 in a government funded language training program

You should not mention it into the work/education section(SECTION 6F)

Also read the next section about completing LINC OR CLIC and also section 9E(if it applies to you)

Clearly, with ESL you can shoot only the Language Proof part, but not Education History. It's really your call to still want to do it.
