Ahhh, interesting re: the LMO! I didn't think about that! I am heading up there at the end of the month, so maybe I can ask around. My boyfriend tells me there are 11 or 12 hotels in his town, so I might be in luck. If not, I'm sure I can find work somewhere. I have decent work experience in customer service! (And I study French and have been to Quebec for a semester.... That might help. )OhCanadiana said:You're welcome. Depending on the job you look at, take a look at the list of professions in the NAFTA agreement.
Also, As you go further North, hotels tend to be more willing to go through the whole LMO process since they find it hard to fill their positions with Canadians so you may be able to get in as a skilled worker too.
You have lots of options.
Regarding your prior comments on financials, I hear you on intermingling your affairs. From CIC's perspective, they are looking for people who have intertwined their affairs and aren't just "testing out" living together before getting married. So, you may want to ask yourself how serious this relationship is at this point since it will come through in your application. If it isn't that serious yet, you can still move under another category as I mentioned above
Good luck!

We're serious in the sense that we are talking about our future. It isn't a matter of me thinking he will steal money or that I don't trust him. I have just always been told that you don't open a joint bank account until you are married. I think it is my Southern upbringing.
I like the idea that another poster pointed out -- only using the joint bank account for bills. (And perhaps we could have a savings account attached for more long-term savings.) It's one of those things I would be willing to compromise on for the sake of staying with him, of course. I trust him with his money, and he is very financially aware. (That's good because I'm a nut about finances. One of my vices, I suppose.) If I go on the WHV, I definitely plan on it being because I want to stay with him for the long-term, with the thought of marriage in mind.
But yes, I will look into the NAFTA as well. I just wasn't sure if I would qualify considering my degree and the fact that a front-desk receptionist might not be in-demand. (Though, one that speaks French might be... My boyfriend is always bragging about how he gets to use French at his job every couple of days.... The lucky bugger. Hahah. He also works at a hotel at the moment, though it's not permanent.)
Thank you so much for your help. This forum is amazing! You're all great.
