Good day everyone,

According to 'Application for Canadian citizenship under subsection 5(1) – Adults 18 years of age and older (CIT 0002)', these are some of the documents that must be submitted. Here is my dilemma (my comments italicized):

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Photocopy of personal identification. Examples of identification you can use include:
  • driver’s license; - I don't have this. Not driving yet.
  • health insurance card - I have this but it is going to expire very soon and mine doesn't show my face on it. Not sure if going to renew it (for financial reasons).
  • senior citizen’s card - Not applicable. Not yet a senior.
  • age of majority card - I've read somewhere this isn't considered anymore. Is it true?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Also stated in the same link is:

"Note: You cannot use your permanent resident card as identification."

So I'm at a loss. Are there other personal identification I can use to submit for my citizenship application?

Will greatly appreciate any response.

Thank you!

Your passport?

I thought about that too. But according to the link I provided:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • photocopies of all valid and expired passports or travel documents you had in the past 5 years. If you don’t have these documents or there are gaps in time between travel documents, we will ask for an explanation.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So I'm assuming that the passport is a separate mandatory requirement. What do you think?

Some provinces do provide IDs for those who don't drive. Ontario for example provide Ontario photo card ID. Have you looked into this option?

Passport is fine. I used that and a driver's licence.

Ahhh. So to clarify. Can I just submit a copy of my passport and no need for additional personal identification documents?

Because as I mentioned above, I have no driver's license yet.

provide a copy of your passport and health card-OHIP (even though it will expire soon).
