What is the status of ISLAMABAD (Pakistan) applicants ?

Hi everyone.

I often visit this forum and feel it's been very helpful in answering many of my questions. My wife and I have applied under the skilled worker class in Sept 2006. The acceptance letter we got mentioned our file number and further stated that we have 36-42 months of waiting time.

I have 2 questions:

(a) Which year's ISLAMABAD applicants are they processing presently in Jan 2008 and

(b) if the waiting time stated on your letter is subject to change and by how much?
I mean if it does change, would it be delayed by 3-6 months, 1 year maximum... or more?

I was a bit confused since the processing time for ISLAMABAD on the website keep changing. If for example, lets say the wait time stated is 3 years after your application is accepted. When you get close to completing that waiting period of three years and suddenly the website is changed to 5 years... does the applicant (who was to start the interview/medicals after the initial 3 years) have to wait for another 2 years? Can please inform me regarding my query or even share their story of what they went through?

I didn't respond to this earlier because I don't have many answers. What I can tell you is that the statistics you see on the websites are a current snapshot of how long it's taking. For instance, if they say it is currently taking 5 years, then you can count back 5 years and determine that those are the applications that are being finalized right now. And the wait time for newer applications will probably be even longer.

As you stated, this is all subject to change. And it must be very frustrating for someone who's waited 3 years to be suddenly told it'll be another 2. But it's a function of supply/demand. Right now Canada seems to be the destination of choice for a lot of immigrants.

Good luck.

Also, remember those numbers are averages, so if 1 application took 12 months, and 1 took 48 months, the average would show as 30 months.

Yes this kind of thing it happens to people. Lack of information causes problems to people
at every strata of society. For you its lack of knowledge of English. For me its lack of
a Greencard that shuts me out of good jobs.

Not sure what to tell you because it will take a long time to speak grammatically correct English.
Even if one were to plausibly speak English, what about the accent and lack of Canadian experience
and the ensuing prejudice when they land? How long b4 they start earning and what about the interim period?
