How do international students usually support themselves in Canada?

1) Around how much cash are you supposed to carry?

2) If you are sponsored by your parents, do you carry credit cards linked to their bank accounts? or linked to your own bank account where your parents transfer sponsorship money?

3) At the Canadian border, do you declare credit cards containing more than 10,000$ ?

Thanks.

Credit Cards do not count as proof of funds---

You need to shoe proof of the money either in Travellers Chq's, CASH or already deposited into a Canadian Bank account in your name

The questions are not about proof of funds at all.

And since you brought that up, how about showing your father's bank statement as proof of funds?

Why does it have to be a Canadian bank account?

PS: it would be great if someone could answer the 3 questions in the first post :), thank you

Because your third question asked about the $10k that needs to be declared at the border

You'll need statements or proof of the funds transferred into your name or if your parents are providing the funds, they must show that they have money and they will need a document proving that they will support you during your studies in Canada. All funds over 10 grand must be declared at the border. Read the declaration card given to you when you enter Canada and properly fill it out.

I have already satisfied the proof of funds requirements by getting the visa so that is not an issue, but let me rephrase the questions,

1) What is the usual amount of cash do students carry when they come studying in Canada? (This is not a regulations question)

2) Students who are supported by their parents, can they simply carry credit cards linked to their father's bank account?

3) For credit cards having more than $10k, do they need to be DECLARED? are they considered as " Currency and/or monetary instruments"?

Thanks

You have gotten the visa, but the IO when you arrive will still need to see proof of funds---If they are not satisfied that you have the funds, they can still deny you entry

1.The can carry as much as they want (given that they have to satisfy the proof of funds requirement at the airport) as well
2.Yes, you can do that
3. CC are not considered currency or monetary instruments for CIC purposes and thus limits on CC do not have to be declared

You are allowed to work off campus for 20 hours a week. Without Canadian experience it will be difficult to find jobs that pay more than min wage, so you will be looking at aound $600-$700 a month take home. So depends on how you live, it will be tight.

However, jobs are hard to find, a lot depends on luck. So keep that in mind

So you are using the SP as a stepping stone to immigrate as a PR---nothing wrong with that but I would strongly advice you to have it throughly planned out.

There are a lot of changes going on that effect all types and schemes of immigration.

I would go to www.cic.gc.ca and figure out what your PR options are after you graduate, come back here and tell us how you plan to achieve PR and then ask for specific advice

If you do not plan this out properly, you are right, you will end up wasting a lot of money

Even if i don't get PR, still my min motive will be earn all the invested money so that i am in a no loss n no gain situation. And once i have recovered the money i have invested there, i will come back to india (if i do not get PR). Tht would be evn better, u will have a foreign degree with exposure hence u r more valuable than evr.
