What are the ways to Transfer Settlement Funds to Canada

i am planning to land in Canada this October. i would like to know tht ways to transfer funds there. wht is the process of declaration of funds other than cash. and is it ok if we open a foreign currency account and transfer the money from it. i am from Pakistan.
