I am planning on flying up to Toronto with our 3-year old daughter next month. I can take a 3 month leave from work, and we want to be able to spend the holidays together this year-something we haven't been able to do since she was born. Is this something that can be done easily, or should I expect any issues when we arrive at Pearson? Any advice is apppreciated, thanks! Let me know if you guys need any kind of background info to better answer my question.

Thanks a million!

Hubby has protected person status in Canada (refugee). He was approved to apply for PR in February. Right now his case is in process (applied, medicals received last month).

Myself and our daughter are US citizens, and have been to visit him multiple (6) times since he went there in 2008. But it's never been for more than 2 weeks. I have a job, a house, car, all of my family is here as well. Buffalo requested my information and docs on Aug 10, but we are still waiting for the FBI background check to come, so it hasn't been sent in yet. Since we are exempt, we don't have to apply for visa, but I don't want to fly all the way to Pearson with a 3 year old just to be refused entry.

Thanks for reply!

Hi,

If you are a US Citizen, you can go to Canada and stay there for 3 months or 6 months. Plus you have job and house in US. What are you worry about ?

Hi MSP2YYZ,

I understand your situation very well. My husband and I are in a similar situation where his visit could look suspicious even though we just want to spend time with each other over the weekend or for a few weeks.

These are the things what CBSA officers have actually told my husband to bring everytime he comes visit me in Canada. What they need to see is that you fully intend to go back to the States and will never try to look for a job or try to start living with your husband without a proper visa.

Marriage Certificate
Returning Tickets
Recent banking statement (this will show them that you have an established residency in the Statues)
Pay cheque stub (this will show them that you have a job and are not in need of a new job)
Lease agreement for your rental property, such as apartment

Sometimes CBSA needs to verfy the information you provide, so ask your boss or co-workers if it will be ok if you give CBSA their phone numbers in case they need to verify your employment.

Good luck and have a great time with your husband. He must miss you and your daughter very much!
